Circuit breaker keeps tripping when timer turns

Internal components of manual electrical timers do wear out (in my case, within 2 years), which will trip an AFCI/GFCI breaker at the same time every day, even before the circuit switches on. This regularity of the problem (at 5:50 PM every day) was the clue that the timer was at fault.

Connecting t103 timer to a 120 volt gfci

that should work no problem , but do make sure its only a gfci model not a combo acfi/gfci as with a mechanical timer the acfi is gonna misinterpret the switch closure and shut the power off ohh and do remember just because the timer is rated at 40 amps and your feeding it with a 20 amp gfci doesn't mean it will work too 40 amps !!

Hot water intermitten and also burning smell coming from Intermatic T103 Timer

Jan 2013. Yes very experienced. Multiple issues. Bad thermostat. Burned contacts on timer. Let's break it down.1) Water heater tripped:29th the electric water heater reset button was tripped because ECO detected high heat from very-hot-water, or nearby burned wire, or loose wire, or bad thermostat.http://waterheatertimer.org/How-to-troubleshoot-electric-problems-with-water-heater.html2) Description of water heater:40 gallon Rudd (Rheem), 2 thermostats and 2 elements indicates ordinary 240Volt water heater.More information shows on label on side of tank, including valtage rating (208-240), and element wattage (usually 4500 watts).Rheem-Ruud serial number, 3rd and 4th digit are year of manufacture.3) Solution for water heater: Tripping ECO reset button, Very hot water, and sometimes not-so-very-hot ... sounds like bad thermostat, and/or bad element. Replace both thermostats, and see if problem persists. Then replace elements if needed.4) Information about timer:Water heater circuit has 40 amp T103-Timer, which is plenty heavy for ordinary 240Volt household water heater that draws 19-22 amps.T103 timer has repair parts, and can usually be repaired unless overheated contacts caused melting, but that can also be worked around in some circumstances, or the internal mechanism replaced by buying T103M mechanism-only and snapping into existing box.http://waterheatertimer.org/How-to-wire-T104-Intermatic-timer.html#T103http://waterheatertimer.org/How-to-troubleshoot-Intermatic-timers.html5) Solution for timer:Attach photo of inside of T103 timer, and I can assess what steps will most likely fix the timer.Maybe the timer is not connected to water heater. Clock doesn't work

The wiring diagram for that timer is somewhat misleading. The 120 volt clock timer motor is connected internally to the "A" (neutral) terminal and the #3 terminal. The "A" (neutral) terminal is to the immediate left of the #1 terminal.
Here's how to do the wiring for your use, (assuming a 120 volt supply circuit and a 120 volt lighting or other load):
Connect the incoming power (line) black wire to terminal # 3. Connect the incoming (neutral) white wire to terminal "A".
Connect the outgoing (load) black wire to terminal # 4.
Connect the outgoing (neutral) white wire to terminal "A".

1) T103 is 120Volt timer that can control multiple loads and different voltages..
If new timer dial stops turning after the tripper passes, then wiring from circuit breaker is probably reversed with wiring going to pump.

My Intermatic T103 Indoor 120-Volt 40-amp timer

Intermatic T103 is mechanical timer with moving gears.
Timer makes audible sound when tripper clicks on-off, but it should not make constant noise unless gears are causing noise.
Turn off power and spray WD-40 on gears and see if problem continues.
WD-40 vapor is extremely flammable hydrocarbon when sprayed, and should not be sprayed on live electric circuits.
If problem continues, turn off power, pull mechanism out and spray WD-40 on plastic gears of clock motor.
Open following links for illustrations of clock motor and removing mechanism.
