Landline phone constant busy signal

should you dial 9 or another access code for outside calls? If if you dial an "outside" number on an intercom line it will look at the first 2-3 digits as another extension. You need to dial the Central Office access code, or use a line key assigned to an outside line.

Display too faint

It is probably made that way, but if it wasn't like that out of the box first plugged in, than there should be a button to make it brighter. (or it might just be you...)

I need to find out what someone's direct line is.

This would depend on if the line is a stand alone line only being assigned to one extension or on a PRI having DID service. Do a Feature *0 and check the line buttons. It will show the line number or target line number. With this information you can check it in one of two ways. If it is a stand alone line and provided a line number, access the line by pressing the line and dialing your cell phone to get the Caller ID information. If it associated with a PRI having DID service, you will have to check the target line information in programming. A system administrator or vendor needs to do this.

The only way a password will stay with a phone is if the "Extension Relocate" feature is turned on. This means that when the phone is moved from one desk to another it retains the same extension number. To verify this do a Feature *0 and press the intercom button to view your extension. Now move the phone to another desk and repeat the process. Passwords are related to the voice mailbox and there are verbal commands using the dial pad to make any changes. Usually 1 is for yes and two for no or 1 to change and 2 to accept. Not knowing which voice mail system your have it is hard to give anymore detail.

Swap M7310 for T7316e? We have M7310 Phones and

Most likely you can swap the phones. On older systems it might not work so I would try one first. You do gain extra buttons which can be programmed as desired. Any buttons you had on your M7310 would be on the T7316e. You can check the buttons by pressing Feature *0 this will allow you to check any button on the phone.
