Confirm the extension # you are working with and that the line 2 key is line 2. do this by pressing feature *0 and the pressing the intercom key, observe the display and then press line 2 key and view display. then go back in the programming and view line 2 apear&ring, change it until it is apear&ring, then release and check for working again. If this dont work check to see if line 2 is programmed as a private line.

Unless "Set Relocation" is turned on (usually is / should be OFF), plugging a set into a different jack gives it the extension # and programming of that jack. Press Feature * 0 and an Intercom key to find out what the new extension # is, and program that extension to allow long distance. Have you tried another handset or especially another handset cord? Those problems are usually poor connections at the small modular connectors for the handset.

Does the two-line display say "Line in use" when you try select the line, or is the indicator next to the line button lit (so to speak), or both? First, try Feature * 0 then press each line key to see if they really are assigned to lines 2 and 3... they could be other functions or multiple appearances of another line.

Hi Jo-Anne, The easiest way to get the lines unlocked is to call your phone service provider and have them reset your lines. You should also go through all the extensions and ensure that Outdial is turned off in the voice mail admin settings. Lines often get locked up when there has been a system hack through Outdial.
