Since it sounds like an issue with the Power first try to release flea power.Disconnect the charger,remove battery,press and hold down the power button for 30 seconds.Reconnect the battery and charger.Turn on system and check if it turns on. Hi Marci, there used to be a Microsoft Fixit download that you could download & run to resolve this issue, but MS retired it.. Follow these instructions and this will also resolve this issue:
To enable the Windows key, follow these steps:
Click Start, click Run, type regedt32, and then click OK.
On the Windows menu, click HKEY_LOCAL_ MACHINE on Local Machine.
Double-click the System\CurrentControlSet\Control folder, and then click the Keyboard Layout folder.
Right-click the Scancode Map registry entry, and then click Delete. Click Yes.
Close Registry Editor and restart the computer.

If You mean keyboard number pad Press the "Num Lk" button, which is located to the right of the "F12" key along the top of the keyboard, to turn on the keyboard number pad. The Inspiron 1525 number pad mimics the type of the number pad you would find on a larger keyboard. The blue numbers on the keys in the middle of the keyboard are activated when you press the "Num Lk" button. For example, if you press the "U" button on the keypad, a "5" will appear on the screen when the "Num Lk" is enabled. Press the "Num Lk" button again to turn off the number pad
Here is the problem if your computer is a Spanish version or was installed using a spanish version of windows you'll have to reinstall using a english windows disk.

May be ur cooling fan is not working n its getting shutdown due to overheating. Try to get it cleaned or replaced at local pc mechanic. Won't cost much. Otherwise it may be ur motherboard is about to die. Get backup whenever it is up.

Google ophcrack for vista. Download and burn to a cd. Set laptop to boot to cd drive f12 on start up I belive. Let it do its thing and It should pop up with any passwords it can find.
