I have a 61

You might want to try blowing it out with air, I have a toshiba that has had a similar problem and that always fixes it for a year or so. The problem is caused by the small cooling fans on the circuit boards, they get clogged and don't cool the board properly. The startup problem is also linked to the fans, they must run at speed or the board shuts down. I used an air compressor and took the tv to the garage to blow it out, you will need to take the back off and blow it our really good, and make sure to get ALL the small and large fans really clean, mine has four fans. Hope this helps....GOD BLESS...Randy

Samsung HLT6187SAX/XAA trys to start up but never does then quits trying after three times. All three LED lights in front begin to flash.

Two common things to look at:Look at turn on from rear where lamp should be to see if it comes on even for a few moments. If it does not come on open lamp door and release the two screws and grasp the handle and pull the lamp cartridge out===look to see if bulb shattered inside. With it out look (may need a makeup or small mirror) where it faces, the color wheel is there, look to see wheel intact with no missing pieces or not itself shattered---usually a bad wheel (but not always) will make a high pitched fan like sound or even a grinding sound. The lamp is in a pull out cartridge or box----here is a photo of what the wheel will look like----both lamp and wheel were high failure parts.12_4_2012_2_54_35_am.jpg

Service manual and noise

This may be an LED power supply issue. This set does NOT use a cloor wheel IIRC Uses 3 LED's for the light source and no CW> . SO--it is either one of the fans--or an LED issue.

HLT6187SAX

Your set does not uses a color wheel--it had LED illumination. So--there is only a couple of fans that could make this noise..OTHER than a possible failing LED power supply--capacitors on the module do fail. This is on the right side of the set--facing outwards at the bottom

Picture is still sharp, but the colr red just disappeared from the picture. It all looks washed out. Any suggestions?

This set used an LED for the illumination source IIRC... a total loss of one color means the loss of one of the three LED's that drive the DMD module. In your case--the RED LED module --or it's driver--has failed. There is NO color wheel to deal with in this set.

Can caps isue cause tv not to come on at ll. no lights no click sounds nothing

Defective capacitors can cause all kinds of faults, so, yes, your capacitors could be the cause of the fault you describe. Replacing such capacitors is not always easy, because manufacturers sometimes use multilayer circuit boards where the contact is in an inner layer of the PCB. However this is not always the case. If he PCB on which the defective capacitors are located can be removed it may be a relatively simple job for someone skilled in the art of soldering to replace them. Otherwise, it is a job for a professional TV repair technician. It may be possible to replace the card with another, or to take it a Samsung service centre for repair. You are likely to discover that it is easier or cheaper to buy a new TV, There may be other problems with your TV that is causing it not to turn on. 27.July.2014

What else besides bad caps cause power issues?

Shorted rectifier diodes [Rectifier stalk], shorted ceramic capacitors connected in parallel with rectifier diodes, and the DC power supply etc: can be the cause. Shorted junction with the switching regulator transistor, is the most common cause. The causes can be many. But, pinpoint the exact faulty component is the success for any repair work. I have a Samsung HLT6187SAX 61 in. HDTV DLP LED TV, no lamp, it is having a hard time coming on, but once it is on there are no problems, any ideas?

This sounds like a very common issue. If set is hard to turn on (takes several tries)but will eventually turn on hereis what my guess would be.Every set has a standby power supplythat is running 7/24 if the set is plugged in and it supplies voltage to theremote circuit that turn on the main power supply for the tv and hence turn theset on.This is an area where companies cut corners by using lower rated voltage caps.By this I mean Standby usually provides under 10 volts to trigger the seton----what they do is use filter caps rated at say 10 volts max in a circuitwith 9 volts (example)=with the standby on all the time the filter caps(electrolytic caps) dry out and fail. The problem usually begins where you have to turn set on or or two times andgradually gets worse--takes longer and more tries to get it to come up.Once on it will stay on until turned off for a period of time. The caps will begin to work better (regain some of thecapacitance) as they get hot--hence one it is on it will seem ok.The beauty of this problem is most of themhappen when set is a year or two old (no warranty) and all you have to do islook at the top to locate bad ones. They are generally black or blue and round and vary in --they have twoconnections each--a + for positive and a - for negative--not unlike a batterywhich in a way they are. The + and - are marked on top and bottom of most boards. They are easy to replace and not expensive parts. The tops are silverand metal looking with creases on top and if bad they will be puffed up ontop---tops must be perfectly flat with no brown material leaking top or bottom. If this is your problem once you id them (make a drawing) you can begin. Here is the critical part---on each cap is also marked the value like 220uf 10vdc---220 micro farad at 10 volts maximum. If you find for example 6 puffed up and all are 10 vdc replace them with thesame value capacitance (like the 220 uf) but go up to at least in this case(from 10 volts) to a 16 or higher rated voltage cap.The only issue is when you go up in voltage rated value the cap is larger sosometimes there is an issue of physical space for the replacement on the boardto fit them in.The reason they cheapen these sets in this way is if 10 caps and you make25,000 sets there is a considerable savings in parts cost. They do not care as long as it lasts past the usual one year parts warranty.I have taken the time to be long winded because this really sounds like it maybe the problem you have.See attached photo of a typical bad caps and if you have questions or need advicelet me know.5_3_2012_2_26_28_pm.jpg
