"Base Search" will display for several reasons.

1. The base station is turned off or not working properly.
2. The handset is not registered.
3. The handset may be registered somewhere else, de-register it.
4. The units (both base and handset/s) may need to be reset to factory default.

You may have already tried this.

Unplug your telephone cable from base, on the handset press the talk key and just let it sit there should take a couple of hours or so.
