Freud FT3000VCE Router Questions & Answers
How do you check/change the brushes on a freud ft3000vce?
I run these routers on a cnc mill that I made and have 3 running at once. What you need to do is take out the carbon brushes and there will be a little spring sticking out of one of the carbon brushes. I like to call this their "scam switch". Just rip off the spring that is sticking out of the carbon brush and put it back together. It will run for a long while again before the brushes wear out.

Hi There I saw your question. I am the last remaining Freud dealer in Ontario---I am sorry to inform you that Freud is now a completely discontinued tool. No part are available. They were bought out by Bosch tools and they shelved the company. Only thing still available is their Blades--that's why Bosch bought them out --Bosch did not have a good name when it came to blades.

Hello Davis gr,My name is larry I am an auth Freud service tech. The first thing to do before you attempt any repairs is of course to unplug. In the full plunged position make sure the router is locked in position out of the table on its side. You twist to loosen the bit nut and tap gently on the side of the bit with a rubber hammerturning it slowly and it will come loose to remove. second--If the router will not spring up to its top position it is because the posts that are spring loaded are dry.again you must remove the router from the table clean the postd with a dry cloth and while still locked lubricate with lite oil using a clean cloth the metel posts.after that with the same rubber hammer tap the base plate and it will come looseI hope this is some helpLarry in Canada

My freud ft 3000 will not run.i have power to the
First thing to check is that your brushes are touching. Remove the 4 screws holding the top cover on. You will see the two brush holders and brushes. Use a multimeter of the ohm setting to check the continuity through the brushes. Do not press on the brushes hard, just make contact with both brushes and the probes. If you get continuity it is not the brushes, it there is no continuity then inspect further to see if the brushes are worn. At this point if it is not the brushes the variable speed switch is more than likely the culprit. If you are getting power to the on/off switch and through the on/offswitch, check to see if you are getting power through the variable speed switch. To do this do not plug the cord in. Use the ohm meter to check continuity of the black wire to the wire coming out of the variable switch with the variable switch at the highest setting. As you turn the dial down the resistance will increase but should not be disrupted. If there is not continuity at all it is the variable speed switch. You can confirm this by bypassing all switches and connecting the power directly to the motor with alligator clips. Make sure you have the router in a vice when you do this though. It has a lot of torque and will jump off the bench if not secured. If you do not feel comfortable doing this please do not attempt it because you could seriously injure yourself or someone else. Any questions please post back and I will check back on this inquiry.

If the router operates, and at full power, you could use an aftermarket rheostat for controlling the router speed. Rockler hardware sells one, others retailers may as well.
If this is not an option, a tool repair person (one of those old-timers...the "handy" ones that can improvise repairs and take pride in doing it) may be able to provide an option to keep it working for you.
Hope this helps.
