I have a 1997 Kohler Command CH25S in my small
Even though the engine is 13 years old but has low hours it could just be that the rings are gummed up and sticking in the groves and not doing their job properly. Before you consider pulling the engine apart for a ring replacement and bore hone, you could try this procedure.
Remove spark plugs and pour some engine flushing product like Wynns or Nulon into each cylinder. Turn engine over by hand to distribute the flush around the pistons and allow to sit for a day or so turning the crank occasionally and adding small amounts as the flush drains past the rings. The flush should soften any build-up of gum around rings and the bore. Before replacing plugs use a torch to see that there is not excessive flush sitting on top of pistons. If so wind over with starter to blow out excess. Replace plugs and put any remaing flush in sump and then fast idle engine until hot and then drain and replace oil and filter (if one fitted).
However if rings are badly worn there may not be much improvement and it is possible the oil use will increase. The cylinder with the badly fouled plug may also have a broken ring/s. Oill changes should be done every year or after 50 hours running, whichever comes first.
Let me know how you get on by posting a comment. Myki R

I have a Kolher 25
Fuel starvation; check for plugged fuel filter/fuel lines and/or sediment and debris in fuel outlet in gas tank. If none of these work, also check the fuel cap vent for restrictions or debris plugging it. Failing all of those, the problem could be the carburetor itself; plugged fuel inlet or dirt somewhere else restricting the fuel supply. Good luck!

I have a k301a kohler
I would first remove the wires on the oil cutoff on the lower part of engine. If there are two wires to remove from the sender, then take them off and use a small screw or tape them together to make contact. It could be that the oil cutoff is bad, which will be overriding the ignition on switch.////Failing that, presuming you have proper gap on the points, check the air gap between flywheel and oil. Not sure what it should be but you can google for it. let us know

Kohler Command 12.5 OHV engine on John Deere STX
Have you tried pouring a little fuel into the plug hole and try for start? If it runs for a short time, you have fuel delivery problems. Check the fuel filter for plugging. Look under the carburetor bowl for a small solenoid that commonly sticks in one position. I'm not aware of an automatic compression release on these engines. As this is a 4-stroke engine, it's possible that one of the valve clearances has closed up during use. Check this with the piston at top-dead-center on the compression stroke. Hope some of this helps!

Kolher magnum 25--worked great last year, now
a stuck float in the carb can cause this as well as old gas do to schlack build up from gas evaperating the carb should be removed and cleaned with carb cleaner and old gaskets replaced a carb kit will run about $20.00 and avail from small engine shops.
the engine number will be needed for the right kit at the bottom of the engine where it mounts there is a flat boss with a number stamped that will be needed for parts.
when the engine is stored the best thing it to run the engine and shut off the gas and run till it stops this will get ride of the gas in the carb there will still be a small amount left in it but follow recommended long term storage prep from the manufacture. hope this helps

I am removing a Kohler engine from a simplicity
While there may be a governor, I doubt that is the problem.
It is more likely just the linkage to the carburetor.
And you don't have to take the engine out to get to the carb.
Take the air cleaner off, and examine the carb butterfly.
There is a choke fast idle cam that is probably not in the correct position.

Gas in the crankcase is caused by what?
the carb is the culprit. either a stuck float or needle valve and carb are full of gunk preventing it from getting a good vacuum. you will need to remove carb, and flush it out to clean it. may god bless!!

I would like to know if it is possible to replace
You might check with a Harbor Freight store either locally or on the web. They have several engine sizes available (with overhead valves) that are Chinese made, but the prices are certainly reasonable. You may have to do some adapting to get one to work. Hope this helps!

Not charging battery no power on stator wires?
With engine off, check continuity through the stator winding. you should have continuity both ways if testing before the diode. If testing after the diode, and you still have continuity both ways, then your diode is blown and needs to be replaced. If you don't have continuity through the stator windings, then stator is defective.
Some models have a fuse in the charging circuit, look for that as well and test with a meter, don't assume visually.

Kohler 17.5 command. will not start
The woodruff / flywheel key is likely partially sheared. Pull off the air housing, remove the starting clutch, to get to where you can see the flywheel key. I bet you will find that the key has distorted. Easily replaced once flywheel is pulled. Make sure to use the correct key when replacing it.

I have a 17hp command pro engine in a sears riding
Hi John, I am Kelly and welcome to FixYa.
Check the inside of the gas tank and see if there is a fuel pick up tube. This sounds like you have a floating vs sunken pick up tube inside the gas tank.
The next time it quits on you; pull off the main fuel line at the gas tank and see if there is MAX fuel available. If not the problem is in the tank.
- If you do have MAX fuel flow we have other troubleshooting to do that I will post about later.
I will keep watching this post for any responses because I don't think that is the problem but the gas tank has to be eliminated first.

Not chaging any ideas or where i should start
Before you start check the wires on the left side of the air shroud of the engine. That is the rectifier assy and if one of those wires is broken it will not charge.
Here is what the book says.
That is pretty much it without using the Kohler specialty tester for the charging system.
Thanks for using FixYa.
