You will have to hold the flywheel for removing the clutch. It may require removing the blower housing.
I use an impact wrench which loosens the bolt w/o holding the flywheel.
It's 99% a regular bolt (turn ccw to remove) since left hand threads cost more to buy the bolt and tap the hole and small engine stuff is made as cheaply as possible.

Does your unit have a low oil kill sensor if it does the unit won't start if the oil is low also if the sensor is bad that will kill the power. I do know if this may be your problem but check the oil level. good luck.

Not likely carb because both cylinders would act the same; not likely coil because both cylinders fire together, however could be wire/boot from coil, plug or low compression/valve adjustment. Premium fuel works miracles on small engines; try a couple of gallons, it will increase horsepower. Check compression and compare to good cylinder, if close, suspect plug or boot. If compression low, hope that valve adjustment will normalize. Good Luck

I believe that is an overhead valve engine. that the valve cover off and turn the crank until both Intake and exhaust valves are closed. That is TDC

turn the crank shaft and watch the relationship between the piston position and the cam followers. As the piston nears top dead centre you will see the exhaust cam follower start to move down and the inlet cam follower start to rise up. This will create a rocking motion of the cam followers at top dead centre. This is known as valve overlap assemble the motor in this position. Ensure the valve clearance is backed right off Turn the crank shaft one full revolution and you now have the compression stroke . This places the piston again on TDC and it is at this position you adjust the valve clearance. Check that clearance for the tappets as most engines run .010" and .012"tappet clearance. If the head is fitted last place the push rods in the cam followers if you cannot see the cam followers and it does the same job. When the top of the push rods reach the overlap situation it is just an extension of the cam followers.

i bet its on a machine that sits outside a lot , if you remove top fan cover i'll further bet you see a build up of fuzzy lint / grass right by ign coil , your coil is being overheated by this "Stuff" and now has gone intermitant , your gonna need to replace it , see my video on youtube on how to do this , i did a video of this a few years back because i got so many requests for this from folks , it is quite easy even my 12 year old son (folowing my method) has done one before with no problems

now the kohler v-twin does have a bit of a problem with camshafts in this size range , your gonna need to remove valve cover on head side that you suspect is bad , verify that valves move in order (one at a time) as you turn over by hand with spark plugs removed (both sides)

this allmost allwways means a bad head gasket if this happens , and most head gasket failures are from overheated blocks meaning a warped head face
but on rare occasions it could allso be a bad valve stem seal

Make sure you have good compression. Sounds like you have blow-by. Crankcase vents into the air box.

It may be flooding slightly. You should also always have a fuel stabilizer in the tank. "StaBil" is a good product.
