As bizarre as it sounds, dropping the poles on the grass totally did the trick for us too! Let it fall a little wonky (not completely level) and the pieces will knock apart. We also lubed it and sprayed it with some canned air just in case the pieces had expanded together in the heat.

try some mineral spirits, it dissolves most glues and adhesives except epoxies.

Hi, according to Amazon (see link below), that model can be filled with either water or sand. My only thought was that water would be much easier to remove than sand if you ever wanted to empty out the tank.
