Rebuild porter cable framing nailer

This model suffers from cylinder seal failure (large plastic seal sitting on top of cylinder) and sticking headvalve. Easy to fix however. Remove head and pop out the headvalve . Lube the headvalve orings with white grease and reinstall. Replace the plastic cylinder seal with Ridgid seal #079020001013, same part as porter cable but cost less. Good luck

My FR350A failed and started leaking air out the deflector continuously. I took gun apart and found a clear ring broken in the cylinder. After examining all parts I concluded that the broken item i

Edge with slots goes against the cylinder and the smooth top edge of the seal goes against the headvalve. Remove the headvalve and lube with white grease. You can save some money by using Ridgid seal #07902001013. Same part less money. Good luck

Nail gun won't work won't shoot

If the nailer is relatively new, the headvalve could be stuck. The headvalve used on this nailer fits very snug within the head. Easy to repair. Remove the head and pull out the headvalve. It will most likely be stuck in the head. After you work it loose, apply white grease and reinstall. Should work fine. If the nailer has lots of use, install oring kit. Good luck

Replacing the Collar (part #118 -on diagram)

I recently submitted a request about whether to use Lithium Grease or not.
I did use White Lithium Grease to coat the part prior to installation, since I assumed that the additional lubrication couldn't hurt, since the chamber itself was well oiled already.
One point to remember is ,be sure to clean any debris that may be in the chamber that might possibly interfere with proper operation of the tool,no matter how tiny it might be..
I missed a very small piece of the old plastic collar that interfered with the new Collar sealing properly, and had to take apart and reclean before reinstalling.
Working like brand new now.Big savings since a new gun would be $ 180 dollars;and the part was $ 20 dollars, and a little time to replace/fix.

What degree nails to use?

Your gun uses 22 degree round head plastic strip nails. Most likely nail that is easy to find in stores is 21 degree nails for Hitachi , Duo Fast and others. Both work ok.

There is a nail jammed

Please follow these instructions to remove a jammed nail from the gun:

CLEARING A JAMMED FASTENER

Disconnect tool from air supply.

1. Remove any remaining fasteners from the nailer.

A. Pull follower all the way to the rear, until it latches (see Fig. 26).

B. Slide fasteners to the rear, and remove from magazine (see Fig. 27).

2. Use a pair of needle nose pliers and/or a flat screwdriver to free bent

fastener from back of nosepiece (see Fig. 28). If fastener cannot be removed

as described, it may be necessary to remove the magazine as follows:

A. Remove two screws (one on each side of tool) (A) Fig. 29.

B. Remove two nuts (B) Fig. 29.

C. Slide magazine back, off of nosepiece.
D. After clearing bent fastener, reverse above to reassemble

It might also be necessary to use a flat screwdrive to push the driver back into the cyclinder head, if after removal of the nail the driver itself is still jammed in an out position. Be careful not to damage the end of the driver, but firmly slide it back into its retracted position.

Hello, there is air coming

Trigger valve is part number A08368 or (old part #897458). Easy repair. Remove air supply hose, and nails. Remove pin holding trigger to expose trigger valve. Spray soapy water on valve to determin if air is leaking from outer part of valve (orings that contact the body) or around the pin. Remove roll pin/s holding trigger valve in body of gun (use 3mm pin driver, some guns have one pin others 2). With pins removed, apply air pressure to gun and valve will pop out (use heavy glove or rag in hand to catch valve because some valves come out with force). With trigger valve in hand notice the two groves on sides of valve that roll pins contact (when you re-insert valve align valve so groves align with roll pin in body). Remove the two pins holding inner workings of trigger valve. There are two orings on the trigger pin, three orings on the inner valve and two orings on the outer part of body of valve. Usually, the orings that cause leak are the two smallest on trigger pin and three on the inner valve (unless soapy water test indicates outer orings). Orings are available at dewalt service center by part number or if you like to tinker, Lowes has many usefull orings in the plumbing department or replace the whole valve for about $25. Use plenty of silicone paste lube on the orings (sold at lowes). Valve should press in without a great deal of force and be sure to align valve to roll pin in the body. Use 3mm punch to temp. hold valve in gun for test. Good luck

How do you disassemble the

Remove head and apply air pressure to small vent hole on gasket surface of cap. Head valve should pop-out (use caution because depending on pressure used it could pop out with force.) If it seems stuck, then press headvalve into head with thumb pressure or light rubber mallet and drip light oil between valve and head. Then try air pressure. Headvalve gets stuck in head when orings have cut a groove into head. Smooth cylinder with 400 grit paper or replace head as needed. If parts look ok, lube orings and cylinder with silicone paste lube (available in plumbing department Lowes, used for faucet orings). Good luck

The return spring broke, How do I repair it?

Hello, it didn't break, it just unhooked. What you have to do is take it apart. It's a pain in the **** so, be patient. Rethread the coil through the nail cartridge and hook it on the pusher. It's hard to describe. Watch your fingers. Don't hesitate to ask any questions

Trigger itself however should last the life of the gun. Check the trigger valve to make sure that it is not the problem. The trigger valve is the same for both fr350 and fr350a

I work for a Fire Dept. in Vermont and we use the

Your nailer will only use clip head. Model FR350a looks similar however is designed for full round head. Take your gun to a large fastener company that deals in mainly construction industry nails/nailers and talk to the manager about purchasing nails for future events tell him your issue with FEMA. I'll bet that you could exchange your nailer for little no cost to the department for a round head type. They usually have plenty of used, trade-in and unclaimed guns. Good luck

Nail fails to fire

The older design was trouble free. Now this new redesign fr350a has been having trouble with stuck headvalve (If you have the valve with quadring instead of oring). Seems like the orings/headvalve fit too tight in head.
The problem that you are describing indicates that the driver is not returning to full top position and not allowing nails to feed forward because driver is blocking path. I would try lubing gun with silicone paste lube (available at Lowes in the plumbing department, used to lube faucet washers). Remove head and pop out headvalve. Lube all oring contact surfaces. You should be able to press in headvalve with your thumbs and valve should return when you release. Next check that the driver is not bent. Driver should move freely but not drop down cylinder under its own weight. Should not be hard to push driver down cylinder. Finally make sure (check seal) is in place located on outer part of cylinder lower half. (remove cylinder from gun, check seal looks like rubber band and fits in a groove, some guns have an oring instead, the check seal is what causes the piston to return to top, is piston oring is too tight or driver is bent or air pressure is too low, the piston will not make it to top )
When new, all parts fit very tight within this gun. The oil that is recommended for this gun is too thin. It works better with silicone paste. Good luck and post again if you have other questions.
