Replace power cord
When a plug wire is replaced say on a stereo there is no hot or neutral it makes no difference which wire goes where there are instances where hot and neutral are a concern but not with a 2 wire plug that is not separated by color if you have 2 white or 2 black then there is no order just wire and go.When color is in question the wires will be colored I hope this helps.
How do i troubleshoot
Well, you do not specify what the issue is, exactly. Dremel units had motor issues on some units. Something about the field coils failing...

unplug tool and while holding the spindle lock loosen the screw in the center of the rubber barrel to reduce the diameter and this make instal/removal easy. don't forget to retighten before using.
I plugged my dremel 395
It is with regret that I must inform you that you will probably have to replace the whole unit, the field coils will have blown and almost certainly the armature - your did give it a 100% over voltage shock. The prices of the parts will be more than the cost of a new machine.
The collet stocks and I don't know what to do? Any
Hi, W/D here.
The collets are a friction fit, and tend to bind after being left in one position for a time.
Try this: Tap the bit, if there is one in the chuck, towards the motor. This sometimes creates the slack needed to remove the bit. Put a little light oil on the collet before you replace the bit.
If no bit is in the collet, try a light oil, and tap directly on the collet with the chuck collar off. Also, tapping from different angles after adding the oil will help to dislodge the collet.
One other method is to set and hold the shaft lock after oiling, and try to rotate the collet slightly while exerting an outward (pulling) force with pliers or channel locks. Be careful with this method, as too much force can result in damage to the collet.

How do you open the housing on the dremel 300,
If you do open it, you can get those little screwdrivers at most hardware stores, buy the bits, or the whole thing, sears has them too. No. T5 through T10 are the smallest, the T5 is about 1/16 of an inch. Or smaller. Take out the screws, twist off the tip and then open the whole thing up, If you get it back together and it is spinning the wrong way, flip the motor over. You got it in backwards, or mark it before you take it out. Hope this helps.
I have a Dremel 300 and the shaft lock assembly
The "nub" on the shaft lock assembly (internal) has worn down and the assembly needs to be replaced.
If you feel competent to open your Dremel yourself (and it's not on warranty) then order the shaft lock assembly from Dremel (early 2011 price: $1.25, not sure how much postage & handling might be). After opening the tool you will find a metal ring and a small piece (the lock) which it holds in place around the shaft where the lock button is located. Remove the old pieces and replace with the new ones and reassemble the tool.
Otherwise you can send the tool to Dremel to be fixed.

The first thing to do is smell it. If it smells burned, it is probably fried. If it isn't working after being plugged into 220, there won't be a fix. Armatures & field coils aren't available for these.
