I was working with the dremel and it shut down and
My dremel started doing that too. If I rubbed the sanding drum along a piece of wood, it would start up again. I think the brushes and the copper armature get glazed over with non conductive dust and possibly insulation smoke which disconnects it enough to stall out. Change the brushes to the new ones in the kit. After a year of heavy use mine slowwed down to about 300 rpm and then died. A very nice tool but I prefer the Makita which is about three times this size just because it is longer lived.

How to change brushes
Either side of the body are two round plastic caps with a slot in under these are a spring attached to the brush, what you need to do is unscrew the cap with a small screwdriver or the end of the collet nut spanner, and withdraw the spring and carbon brush, check the length of the brush and replace if worn down, replace the brush cap and run the tool without load for five minutes to bed the new brushes in. (if the brushes are ok make sure you replace them in the same orientation as removed).
