Spark plug gap on coleman 6250

In order to run/crank the sparkplug gap is not hyper-critical. .045-.060" should let you run. Too small of a gap will cause the engine to not start.

I cannot locate the owners manual for my Coleman PowerMate 6250 generator 10 hp? Any place I can find this online quickly thank you

Most PowerMate manuals are available here: http://www.powermate.com/productmanuals.php?cat_id=3 . However, describing it as the PowerMate 6250 10 HP generator is insufficient to find the correct manual. The Coleman PowerMate line has several models with 10 HP engines and a 6250 Starting Watt (5000 W running) capacity. These include the Powermate PM0435005; the direct link for this manual is http://www.powermate.com/pdfs/2011/12/29/pm0435005.02.pdf . Please add a comment with the actual model number of your generator if you need further assistance with finding the correct manual for your generator. I hope this helps. Cindy Wells

I have a coleman powermate maxa 5000 er Generator.

If this is the model I am thinking of, there are 3 outlets. One 240V (L1, L2, Neutral and Earth ground. Some models use a 3 terminal receptacle that combines Neutral and earth.), one 120V receptacle (L1, Neut, earth) and another 120V receptacle (L2, Neut, earth).

If you verified fuse and circuit breakers are good, turn on the generator and verify you get 120V on each of the two outlets. Measuring between the narrow blades of the two 120V outlets should be 240V.
***Shut off the generator.
With a test light or ohmmeter, check continuity from the earth terminal of 120V outlets to 240V outlet. Likewise for neutral (wider blade on 120V outlet). Lastly, check continuity from Narrow blade of each outlet to the 240V outlet.

I suspect that you miswired neutral and earth. On a 4 wire PLUG, it is customary to connect earth and neutral.

Work safely so you can give feedback.

Sometimes people mistakenly think there's a problem with a carb on Onan 4000 generators. Be sure to ensure the fuel pump is pumping fuel to the carb by pulling the hose off the carb and watching for adequate flow. A faulty electric fuel pump can often only show symptoms or act up after it is warmed up. Sometimes it may run for 10 or 20 minutes and just shut down. Check for fuel flow immediately upon stalling if this is your symptom. Mine would shut down after 20 minutes and not restart for awhile. I pulled the hose off the carb immediately and noted there was no fuel in the line and it would not pump fuel while holding the start switch on either. If you are mechanically savvy you can disconnect the hot wire the positive wire (red) leading into the fuel pump and connect it with 12 V and see if it pumps fuel out the hose also, but be careful to capture the fuel coming out the hose). Once cooled down it pumped fuel in a weaker than normal stream, but when hot after 10 or 20 minutes it quit pumping causing stalling of the generator. Replaced the fuel pump (and new filter while at it) and everything worked fine again on my 1995 Onan. Much stronger fuel stream noted too from the hose.

Home generator wont start

Check for spark. If it has spark, try starting using starting fluid. If that starts it, then you know it is a fuel problem. You may need to rebuild the carb.
