I'm not sure if this is it or not

turn the engine off and the serpentine belt will stall

remove the old belt. install teh new on in the reverse of how the original was removed.

The diagram is usually on the bottom side of the hood or in fron of the radiator. look at all of the stickers under there.

usually it is on the chasis close to the battery.

Very simply, there should be a spring-loaded "idler pulley" that keep tension in the belt, locate that and figure out how to release tension, they are all slightly different. Important!!- Make sure you make a diagram of how the belt is on there, so the new one can be threaded properly.
The idler puller usually is one that is just there, not driving an AC pump or alternator, power steering pump, etc. Look for a square hole in the idler pulley itself or it's bracket that a socket wrench driver can fit into. Then slightly put pressure on the socket wrench handle and the pulley should move without too much effort.

you can also use a 3/8" breaker bar on the belt tensioner.
make a sketch on how the belt is routed before you remove.

I also do not know what Year your BMW 528i is, as the 5-series were manufactured from 1997 thru 2004.
Click on the following Link. Regardless of your Year it should have the Diagram's and Photo's you need to Remove and Replace your Serpentine Belt, including the procedure in loosening the Tensioner.

go to Autozone.com. See if you can access "ZNET" there. you can look for the belt/routing diagragm there.

Regarding "How". The Tensioner Pulley ARM is "loaded" with a spring. The standard rule: Rotate/Move the Tensioner away from the belt contact area and towards the open area/non belt contact area. In Diagrams the Tensioner is Identified as #7 and in the next as #6. These should be rotated counterclockwise and down and to the left away from the belt. While doing this, the belt will loosen and should removed from one of the more easily "other" Pulleys.

The tool is just a long wrench really. You turn the tensioner counter clockwise to release the tension. Take care to just turn enough to release enough tension to remove the belt. If you turn too far you will release the tensioner and the spring inside it.

Put the new belt in place running over the tensioner last. Then again release the tension with the tool in the same manner.

You do not need the special tool any wrench will do that can reach the tensioner.
