Try taking the battery pack to your local radio shack store. They can usually match the original battery pack with a new, compatible one even if they no longer make the EXACT one that came with the phone. This recently happened to me with a panasonic phone bought around 2002. phone stopped charging, no longer make the phone, etc. I went down to radio shack and they fixed me up with a new battery (not exact brand/part number as original) and it worked. Al firmware updates come with an instruction. I hope you did read the instruction, before you updated in the first place. For every update there is a condition, the electronic needs to work perfect and the battery / power supply must be capable of delivering enough power during the whole update process. When an electronic device is start acting strange, a software update is the worst thing you can try to solve the problem. If there is an update for your phone, why should I type the instruction here? it is in the package and you should read it before. not when the phone is bricked.

Yes you can replace the coby dvd 224 remote with a new one, all you need to do is to get a replacement remote that looks exactly the same as your old one. You can try out that of a friend before you go ahead in replacing it with a new one. Be sure that the problem is not that the battery of the remote is weak and needs replacement or the sensor on the device you use the remote for and the remotes sensor is not bad before you can replace the remote.
Test the sensor by opening the device to check if the pin that is holding the sensor light is not rusty, if it is, then it is the light you are to replace, check the same on the remote to see if the problem is from the remote, then you replace the sensor light which is the infra red light on both the remote and the device itself.

Good question but no 'make model (what it is). Base units have an antenna, make sure it is extended. Make sure the batteries in the satellite hand sets are good as they send out the signal to the base unit to be 'in range'. Not sure about the PIN request, refer to the manual. They are all online.
