the power shuts down or did the PC BSOD? Blue screens of Deathh(sic) BSODs are crashes, turning off is the PC turning its own power off. blue screens of *****. no OS stated, my guess XP? that loves to crash OS. the chkdsk way is ok, it finds simple problems, only !!! it does not really test the hdd robustly, nor do a smart analysis. the tests on hdd are best done with linux boot cd/dvd or usb thrumb drive, (after chkdsk) chkdsk from a OS running can hard to do if it BSODs all the time.! we can also use F11 recover mode and do cmd, prompt there and try that, chkdsk. or from install disks, of you unstated OS. run Chkdsk but best is this. be sure to check SMART 05 and C6 numbers http://www.pcdied.com/brick-dead.html' did you know as you type on this forum the severs here actually check that S.M.A.R.T data page like 1 time every 10 min? and when it sees that fail' it turns on a red light and tells the tech to hot swap in a new drive.? (or emails him?) the same technology works here, even W10 does this better. it will tell you (in lame why) the HDD is going SOUTH. if the PC can run for say 10 minutes and nOT BSOD crash then run Crystal disk , (free) as seen in the link above. your PC has and F11 key, called recovery and has and advanced page. below is w10 , what OS do you run: we cant guess OS

Unfortunately this is a problem with the screen itself. One way to verify that it's the screen having the problem and not the actual video card in the computer is to attach an external screen. Just use one from another computer you may have, if you don't have another computer just use a friends monitor at a friends house to test with, or one at your work / school to attach to the monitor port on the laptop. Just turn off the laptop, attach a screen to the port that it fits into, and turn it on, it should come up on the screen.

Once you confirm that the screen is bad, it is very difficult and quite expensive to fix. I would definetly not recommend you try doing it yourself unless you have done similar repairs in the past. Getting it fixed may end up costing as much as a new laptop, so if you can use an external screen whenever you use it that is best by far, if you need it to be portable you may want to just sell this laptop on ebay, listing that it has the problem you know of, and replace it.

If the notebook is not reading the Disks on bootup means, your notebook recovery dsiks are not correcly created. You can obtain free recovery disk sby contcating the HP.

Well if you got an error related to the hard drive then its better to check the hard drive whether is faulty or not..

1.Shut the system down.
2.Restart the system and tap on the F10 key for while till we dont get to the set up utility.
3.As soon as we get to the BIOS screen try locating an optionw which reads as DIAGNOSTICS, it would be the third option at the top,
4.Select that option using the arrow keys on the keyboard and hit enter.
5.It would show us an option which reads as Primary Hard drice self test..
6.Hit enter again to start the test.
7.There are 2 types of tests.
8.As soon as we start the test it would start the SHORT TEST first which would take a couple of minutes.
9.If it comes with any errors then call hp and ask them to replace the hard drive.
10.If the short test passes and the comprehensive test starts then let that test run completely which might take an hour as well..
11.If this test goes fine then the hard drive is fine and you are facing trouble because of the graphices card installed on the system.
12. I am providing you a couple of drivers which you can try installing depending on the operating system installed on the system.but you need to first check the hard drive and then perform these steps..

I believe the system was shipped with a 64 Bit Vista which NVIDIA graphics card.

What leds you can see blinking on laptop? Can you hear any bootup sounds? Sometimes my laptop hangs on standby or hibernat, then screen is black and some leds may blink. Usually i need to take charger and battery off for 10 seconds and boot up again. If that dont help then there must be some hardware damage.
