The drive has a bad audio laser - both the video and the audio lasers use the same lens. You can replace the whole drive for a reasonable cost than having it repaired.

Forget about calling HP. Unless you recently purchased it, the warranty is already out. There's a known motherboard problem that HP will warranty ONLY if it's a few months old. Check their website or call if you have half a day to waste. Sorry for being negative, but in reality, there's not much hope.

Here's a "fun option" that has worked for some:
1. Power down the laptop.
2. Unplug the AC cord.
3. Remove the battery.
4. Plug the AC cord in again.
5. Push and hold the power on button for 30-40 seconds.
6. IF it boots up, install the battery and you're good to go.

They say this procedure removes static electricity. Actually, it's a sign of the motherboard going out. Days are numbered. Back up all data files when/if you can.

wow. okay. start by removing the battery. then unscrew and remove any faceplates on the bottom of your laptop. i.e. ram hatch, wireless card hatch, harddrive hatch, etc. not all laptops have hatches.keeing the laptop upside down on a flat sturdy surface, begin to remove all screws on the bottom, making sure to organize them and mark down or take notes of where they were in a log. make sure you constantly touch a metal case or large metal object of some sort to discharge any static. once the screws from the bottom are removed, flip the laptop over. open the screen all the way, so its flat or almost flat and pry up the faceplate that is abov the keyboard and below the screen. this face plate has cheep japanese tabs so be sure to remove it carfully but firmly. now you have access to the keyboard screws. remove the keyboard screws, taking note of thier location and remove the keyboard. the keyboard will have a long cable like looking thing attaching it to the motherboard. remove it properly. set the keyboard aside and begin to remove the remaining screws that you can find that attache the plastic case to the motherboard or internal components. note thier locations and organize accordingly. when you get this far comment back and let us know okay?

the problem is with your RAM & u will have to replace the RAM. this will work

It sounds like your keyboard is starting to go. Try plugging a usb keyboard and using that. If your keyboard needs replacing, it may be around $50, but that will depend.

1 long, 2 short on the HP DV9000 is "bad video adapter". Since your video card is integrated into your motherboard, you're looking at replacing the entire board (between $200-$400 on average) + labor costs. It would be more cost effective to purchase a new laptop for $100-$200 more, with full warranty.
