I would have to say that vista is the problem. Many people are happy with there vista, mainly becuse they only have programs that fit it. But i definitely think that microsoft could have done better. So i would have to say that because you have XP, you should use it. And if there is a button that says sync or connect, try it. I am happy that i could help:)

Hook up your mp3 player to your computer
Go to your desktop and double left click on "My Computer"
When it opens you will see listing that says "Devices with Removal Storage" your mp3 player should be listed there.
Right click on your mp3 player, and a window will open, right click on "Open" and now your files/songs should be visible.
Hold the left click down and drag it across all the files/songs that you do not want this will highlight the files/songs you do not want, release,right click and then click on "Delete"
Now you mp3 player should be clear of the files/songs you do not want.
BE CAREFUL and do not delete files needed to operate your MP3 player.

Open up 'My Computer'. You should see it under the list of available drives.

Check its contents first to make sure that you have the right drive.

In 'My Computer', right-click on the drive and choose 'Format'.

Leave all the options as they are and click on 'Start'. This is a non-reversible process so make sure this is what you truly wanted to do in the first place.

Once the process is completed, take the memory card out and insert it into your Digital Camera or any other device. Try to browse to it to make sure it works fine now.

The battery on your mp3 is worn out and will need to b replace, the battery can no longer hold charges, that why, it turns off when unplug it but turn on whil plug in.

Replace the battery on your mp3 player, and you will see that, the problem will be solve, your mp3 will stay on after you replace the battery.

Try a RESET, holding the MENU/On-Off button for more than 10 seconds.

When the player needs a long time to read a lot of files from one folder, reorganize files into a number of folders.
