you may get software to try and look for the deleted files (if they were actually written to the SD in the first place) the data in files are usually not deleted until something write over the data. its only marked as free space. but if it is lost. dont be upset. you will end up with many many hours of videos and pictures of your child :) one single lost xmas video will mean nothing in the long run How to recover deleted files

Consider NOT connecting the camera to the computer.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive. Or you can use any photo cataloging program.

If your camera can indeed use a 4GB card (your manual will tell you if it can), to format it, simply go into the menu and find "format"and follow the on-screen instructions.

Go to the vivitar web site, look for support and downloads, you should find a free downloadble driver specific for you camera and operating system

That simply means that the battery is dead. It lights up thru USB port as the port has charging facility. But battery being dead does not hold the charge. Change it.

I got it figured out kind of by accident. I decided to by a SD card, figuring that may work. when I plugged it in, a box came up say that it was working properly, but I still didn't get the pictures. I clicked something else in that box (I think it was advanced setting and they asked me if I would like to reconfigure the ports, so of course I said "yes". What do you know it made the SD card work and my camera worked also. I just had to follow a few easy directions that came up. That's it, Thanks, Gary

Use a memory card with a generic USB card reader. Getting camera drivers to work is no fun.

You can certainly recover the videos from it. Just connect your camera to your PC and make use of the app shown here in this tutorial...
