Keeps shutting off

Even if you think you have a very good battery, it won't make it better. 99,9 % of the time when the camera stops working, before you can make a picture the battery does not have enough capacity. You could try to charge the battery again and again. When a battery is new it could happen it only will become to its full strength after a few charge cycles. Older batteries, will age more when you don't use them, and when you forget to charge them regularly. If you are using AA batteries, read the following part: Always charge NiMH batteries before using them for the first time, or if they have not been used for a long period. 3 months can be very long for NiMH batteries. Do not use alkaline batteries unless it is absolutely necessary. In some cases, alkaline batteries may have a shorter service life than NiMH. Alkaline battery performance is limited, especially at low temperatures. The use of NiMH batteries is recommended. AA manganese (Zinc-Carbon) batteries should not be used.

How to activate panorama?

Panorama shooting lets you create a panoramic picture, using the OLYMPUS
Master software from the provided CD-ROM. An Olympus xD-Picture Card is required for Panorama shooting. If the card is a Fuji xD card then the panorama feature would be disabled to you.

I have a Olympus Stylus 1050 SW digital camera, How do I download photos to my computer?

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program such as Picasa.

My Olympus 1050 SW looks

You can TRY and dry out the camera, but I can pretty much guarantee you that there is corrosion inside and it will eventually fail if it hasn't done so already. The Olympus Stylus Tough cameras are not very tough or waterproof unfortunately. I have seen dozens of them with smashed LCD windows or that have leaked water.

Don't buy a waterproof camera, cause they aren't waterproof. Buy an underwater case and put your camera in that.

To try and dry out the camera, some people suggest putting it in a ziplock back with rice to pull out the moisture, it's not a bad thing to try. The fog in the lens MIGHT go away, but it will most likely leave spots or a big ring which will show up on all your pictures.

Your camera is most likely a goner, sorry to say.

First I would try to reset the camera in settings menu. However, I would think this point more to the fact that the camera is defective and will need to be sent in for service.

Olympus Stylus 1030 SW.

The cover presses on a switch. So either the switch has a problem or isn't being pressed in enough to activate. This is one of those things that could be a matter of cleaning and it works again or could mean trying to replace the switch which really isn't going to be worth doing. The repair cost will cost more than a new camera. Best advice is to find a camera shop and get a repair tech to look at it. This is one of those things you have to look at to be able to see whats wrong and then know what to fix.

As far as the pictures if they are on the data card don't worry, they are perfectly safe. You just need to get an inexpensive card reader. The camera data card plugs in to them and then they plug into the usb. The computer sees the card as a USB storage device. So you just copy your pictures on to your computer from it. These also are much faster then the camera transfer speed. Cost is $1 and up. sometimes you get the small ones free with a new card.

The problem with digital cameras is that the repair parts and labor are not cheap. So unless it is under warrenty the repair of even small simple things will come close to what you paid for the camera. If you know what the replacement cost is then you can decide if its worth getting it fixed or just to replace it. It's a shame most of the time as the problem is usually on the minor side but the cost isn't.

It says "write protect" when

Hello

OK, if the memory card itself is locked, you might sometimes get this error code. All you need to do is to take out the memory card and switch the lever on the left side to the unlock.

6c99e31.jpg

If the error is still displayed after you did the above, you might want to try the card in another camera.

If the card works in another camera . the problem is with your card reader in your camera.

If you open you sd slot and look inside with a sharp light , you should be able to see on the left side of the slot there is a little copper or spring steel lever switch. This switch work as follows:

1. When no card is inserted / no write protection , the switch is open and thus the protection is off.
2. When locked card is inserted , the tab is depressed and tells the camera that the card is lock.

Contrary to popular belief ,the little tab on the sd card is not an electronic switch and does not physically influence the card operation itself. If you put a locked card into a camera without a sd lock switch , you would still be able to use the card normally.

It is incredible difficult to fix this switch because of space limitations in the sd card. Look into the sd slot and if you can see the switch , use a needle to pull the little tab down toward the base of the camera by about 2mm or until it works being careful not to bend it.

If this does not resolve your problem , there might be a short in the switch circuit and the camera will need to be disassembled to resolve this error. This should cost no more than $50.

Kind regards

Sounds like you got a bad battery or a flash capacitor inside the camera that control the rest of the unit. specially if it beeps. I would have a local camera shop examine this because this sounds like you got a bad flash capacitor inside the camera.
