I would suggest as a first step that you clean the drain motor lint tray/filter. So many 'faults' are caused by blocked filters. The motor is unable to drain all of the water in the allotted time.
If you are unsure where the filter is, it is normally behind the front lower (kick) panel and held in by a round cover/knob.

REMOVE POWER AND ENSURE YOU HAVE A WATER RECEPTACLE/RAGS TO SOAK UP ANY WATER!

It's surprising what people have found in theirs! It is always worthwhile checking it on a regular basis.

I just use liquitabs - which go directly into the drum, and fabric softender.

drum bearings, check and investigate, remove drive belt and then rotate, if still noisy then yes its the drum bearings, if the noise stops when the belt removed the motor bearings are faulty costly repair on most models, sorry oh there is also the possibility there is something lodged within the drum cavity between the lining and the drum casing

More than likely, you have a problem with the filter screen in the hot water valve behind the machine.  Turn the hot water off and remove the hose connection to washer.  Check the filter screen inside the water valve to make sure that there is no debris blocking it.  You can pull the screen out and rinse through with water.  Also, hold the screen up into the light to see if you can see through the screen clearly.  You may want to use an old toothbrush to clean it out.  Reassembly the filter screen back into the water valve.
Get a small bucket and run the water through to clear out any debris in the water line.  Reconnect the water hose to the washer and try starting the machine.  If you still have water issues, then a qualified LG technician is needed to find the problem.

I have run into the same problem with my LG microwave oven/toaster. The did a poor job protecting the silk screened legends for the controls. I made my own labels. the problem lies on the speed sensors on the main direct drive motor (the connection with the thin cables) but the problem is that it is not a seperately replaceable item and comes complete with the main stator coil unit this is very pricey at over £120+vat trade price then an engineer will charge his fitting fee on top of this. maybe worthwile looking at buying a new machine

You may have a problem with the door latch assembly and needs to replaced.

My wife complained that we were having similar problems recently. After investigation I located the remains of a pen entering the filter and removed this and did a few empty boil washes to remove any remains of ink and this worked for us. Check the filter and hose between the drum and filter.

To remove the drain pump filter on your LG washer model WM2016CW, try gently wiggling and pulling it after removing the cap. If it's stuck, apply lubricant sparingly and tap around the edges. Comparing with your mother-in-law's similar model might offer insights. If all else fails, refer to the manual or contact LG support for assistance.
