How do you wire a GFCI light switch and outlet

If I understand correctly, you are replacing a single switch that has two wires.
You want to install a switch/plug-gfci similar to one shown below.

You are working on wires inside a box:
To wire this kind of device you need at least 2 cables entering the box.
Each cable has a black-white-ground wire.
Cable 1) One cable comes from breaker box. This is the Hot cable
Hot cable has black-hot-from-breaker & white-neutral-from-breaker

Cable 2) One cable goes to the Load (light, fan motor). This wire is controlled by the switch. This is the Load cable
Load cable has black-to-load & white-to-load.

Leviton combo GFCI and Switch
There are 2 screws on either side of switch
There are 2 screws to either side of plug
There are two wires on back of device

2 screws on either side of switch: there is a brass-colored screw and silver-colored screw.
Black-hot-from-breaker connects to brass colored screw on side of switch
White-neutral-from-breaker connects to silver colored screw on side of switch

2 black wires on back of device
Black-to-load connects to black wire on same side of switch as brass-colored screws
White-to-load connects to black wire on same side of switch as silver-colored screws

2 screws on either side of plug
These screws are used when your box is a 'junction' box that feeds wires forward to another box ... for example you have 4 receptacles in a room, the cable enters first box and then goes to the next box and to the next box. Suppose your switch was one of the boxes. Wire arrives from a previous box (this is the Hot cable, every box has 1 Hot cable). Your switch box sends one cable to the Load (light, fan etc), but it also sends another cable to the next box which has a receptacle or another switch.
If your box has a third cable that feeds forward to other boxes, then the screws on either side of plug are used. The black-to-next-box goes to brass screw. The white-to-next-box connects to silver screw.
And all further boxes and devices are protected by the GFCI device.

If you need more information, please answer back and I will help.

If the test button pops the circuit when you press it, then it should be working properly, If it doesn't then it's not working.

I have an electric box

You have a combo light switch and GFCI.

It sounds like you are 1 wire short.
Where is the wire that goes to the light?
The black wire should be Hot, the white wire could be the Neutral or the could be the wire going to light.
The Black hot wire connects to dark-colored or brass screw on one side of device. This screw should be labeled Line.
You need a white Neutral line that connects on silver-colored screw that is located opposite where black wire connected.

The switch controls a light ... but you need another wire going to the switch.

Seeking the CWL1420P wiring and assembly instruction sheet

dedbf2b.jpg

The sell sheet for this product shows this is a NEMA-14 Twist lock plug rated for 120V - 240V wiring.

To wire the plug:
G is for ground W is for Neutral
The hot wires connect to X and Y
This is simple for 240V ... your red and black wires connect to X and Y, the ground to G, and the white neutral to W

For 120V circuit, the G ground and W white neutral remain the same. I think the black hot wire is X.

A simple tester in the receptacle can confirm this before plugging in the twist-lock

How to install a 3 way plug for stove

If I understand correctly, your stove plugs into the wall.
Your stove plug looks similar to one shown
30912b3.jpg

Review wires inside wall.
There are 2 hot wires which are red and black
There is 1 neutral wire which is white
And there is a bare ground wire

Connect wires so they match image above.
2 hot wires, black and red go across from each other
White neutral connects to flat prong on top
Bare ground connects to round prong on bottom
Older wiring might not have both white and ground ... if you do not have both, then connect the wire you have to the flat prong on top

Power comes from light to switch.want to wire in

OK .. for this to work, you would need to confirm that the power cable is also in this wall box. So in that wall box you need the existing power cable, the existing light cable, and a new light cable. All the cables being 2 wire with ground. Then just jumper the black power wire top the new switch, and connect the new light , black wire to the switch, the whites will all be together ..
If there is only one cable in this wall box , then the power is run to some other box and you need a neutral for the new light. That may mean rewiring the power tyop get it to the wall box, or rewing the new light to get power from it.

Trying to uninstall a light switch. The two black

Of course you have the power turned off, right? Assuming you don't plan to re-use the old switch, just cut the wires. Your wires are probably plenty long enough if your cut them as close to the switch as possible. Then you can strip then new ends of the wires. It's easiest to strip the wires using a stripping tool, but it's not necessary to go buy one, as you can do this easily enough with a knife. Good luck, and thanks for using FixYa. Al Kupchella

I have a cooper triple single pole switch

Any switch always ONLY Breaks and Makes, the PHASE wire, the Neutral is COMMON.. So you can either join the phase wires to ALL contact terminals on one side, and then take SEPARATE phase wires out to each "Load" on the "Other"side, terminals. OR run a separate wire at each side, for each terminal .from Breaker box and out to the load.

Light Switch trips breaker when on, power 2 lights in off posit.

sounds like you have installed the wrong switch.
There are 2 way, 3 way and 4 way switches.
If more then one switch turns the light on - it cannot be a single pole switch you install.... it must be 2,3,or 4.
Ensure you have the proper switch.

Thanks!!
