GXV140 Carburetor removal
The carb just slides off of the posts. The gaskets are holding it on and may tear when you pull it off. The linkages must be disconnected to get it off as well. There are two bolts on the throttle plate that can be removed so the plate can move to make disconnecting the linkages easier. Some people remove the posts by threading two nuts on and tightening them against each other so that the inner one can be turned to unscrew the post. That didn't work for me as both nuts still turned together.
Cannot start engine
It is either one of two very common problems. To eliminate the easiest requires fining out if you are getting fuel in the combustion chamber. Get some starter fluid, a small amount of gas in a cup will work but can be dangerous. Remove the air cleaner cover and air cleaner. Spray fluid into carb intake the try to quickly start motor. If after trying this a few times without the motor firing, it would b a fair guess that you have a spark problem. If the motor starts and runs for a very short time, then you are not getting fuel to the carb. Those are the two major systems of small engines.
My Troybilt Snow Blower wheels have locked up
Just found the same problem with mine. The bearing on the gear shaft is frozen. To replace these, follow the instructions in the manual to replace the friction wheel, then tap out the bearings in the side of the case, you'll probably find one frozen up. As long as you're there, might as well put in a new friction wheel. Mine is looking pretty worn after fighting the bearings all winter.
Pull cord engaging
recoil clutch fingers are broken or stuck. Take the recoil cover off and look at it while pulling the cord to see if the fingers arent coming out. If the fingers are still coming out then you have worn out grooves on starter cone where fingers engage to turn the motor. If the recoil is damaged a new one can be purchased as a unit from Troy Bilt online for a reasonable price.
