Golden Technologies Buzz Around 3 Wheel Scooter Questions & Answers
I have replacement batteries but cannot find instructions on how to open battery pack and replace. Buzzaround lite
I've not personally replaced my batteries, but I've seen my cousin do it for my Golden Buzzaround XLS-HD and Extreme scooters. There are (at least) 4 very deep holes somewhere in the battery box. I think the holes are on the bottom of box (but I don't recall for sure). He uses a screwdriver with a 12 inch shaft and Philips head. I think it's likely a size #2 Philips head (but I don't know for sure). If it's not #2 then it's #3.There are (at least) 4 screws holding the battery box closed. Remove the screws and then the battery box can be separated into the bottom part where battery is mounted and the top part (the cover). The screwdriver needs a long shaft to reach the screw heads because the screw heads are about 8 to 10 inches deep inside the holes. Also, download a service manual. A service manual is for maintenance by technicians, but is also very useful for DIY people. What you currently have is probably only an owners manual.

Can I replace my own battery in Buzzaround Lite?
Very simple. Just lift up the handle on the battery pack and pull it out. Turn it over. Now there are about ten little screws you have to remove, usually small Phillips head, depending on the brand name.
CARFULLY turn it back over and gently lift the top cover off.
Disconnect the cables on one battery and take it out ( you may have to pry it out because the bottom of the batteries usually have VELCRO on the bottom). Replace this battery, re-attach cable connectors, then repeat with other battery. Make sure battery connectors are tight because when you turn the power pack over sometimes the connectors come loose. Good Luck.

The motor is screeching and
When the motor is screeching and draining the battery, that indicates that the motor has most likely seized up and is not turning the axle properly, which in turn will drain the batteries quickly as the scooter struggles to move. I strongly recommend discontinuing use of the scooter for your safety until the motor can be replaced; contact the manufacturer for a service call to fully diagnose the problem and give you a quote. If your insurance purchased the scooter for you, they may partially pay for the repair.
Good luck!

Your scooter has the ability to flash a fault code. The flash is deciphered as follows;
Any fault condition on the S-Drive controller or scooter will cause the
"Power on / Diagnostics" L.E.D. to flash. The L.E.D. located on the tiller
dashboard will indicate with flash codes what problem is occurring.
L.E.D. Flashes 1 time and pauses, 1 time and pauses.... Batteries are low,
scooter will still operate.
L.E.D. Flashes 2 times and pauses, 2 times and pauses.... Batteries are very
low, scooter will not operate.
L.E.D. Flashes 3 times and pauses, 3 times and pauses....Over voltage to
controller.
L.E.D. Flashes 5 times and pauses, 5 times and pauses....Brake is in the
freewheel position or connection to brake is open.
L.E.D. Flashes 6 times and pauses, 6 times and pauses....Paddle or speed
potentiometer problem.
L.E.D. Flashes 7 times and pauses, 7 times and pauses....Paddle or speed
potentiometer problem.
L.E.D. Flashes 8 times and pauses, 8 times and pauses....Motor
disconnected or faulty.

I don't think the charger
This concern will require a volt/ohmn meter. If I am not mistaken, this scooter requires two 12 volt batteries wired in series. That is, the positive post of one battery connects to the negative post of the other and vice versa. This then constitutes an operational voltage of 24 volts. On most scooter chargers there are 3 pins that plug into the scooter to charge the batteries. On mine, the pin in the center pin is "ground". However, it is easily identified by setting the voltmeter to ohmns reading (a horseshoe shaped symbol) and doing what ever dissassembly is necessary to reach the scooter side wiring then touch one lead of the meter to either of the negative posts and the other to the exposed wires until the meter reads 0 ohmns or very close to this. This is the charger ground. Then set the meter to read DC voltage. Disconnect the charger from the scooter. Place the black lead on the meter on the identified ground of the charger and the red lead on either of the other two leads. There should be 12 volts either location. If there is not. the charger may be the problem. If there is, the batteries could have an internal problem and any auto parts store will happily check them for you.
Good luck and good hunting. If I can be of further help my email is

Has power when switch is on. no forward or reverse
john sounds like a cable problem from the tiller to the rear of your scooter. Power iis getting to the tiller but not back to the controller when you engage the throttle also the seat height is not getting power. I'm afraid you will have to get it checked by a qualified Tech to find out exactly what is wrong. If Medicare paid for the scooter then they will pay for most of the cost of repair. Hope this helps you

Childs Betty check to make sure that the freewheel lever is in the drive position (located in the rear in or under the shroud). If the lever is in drive then you have other problems. Do all the lights on the battery level blink constantly or just a few ie 3 lights flashing. This could be a flash code indicating a problem with other items like motor or controller. If you want you can e-mail me at

Error code
Typically this signals the free wheel brake lever is engaged. Turn your scooter off, then push the brake lever (the handle sticking out the top of the scooter back end) completely forward. Turn scooter back on.

Battery shows 24.8 volts no power
Yes, your batteries are trashed. You need to replace them. Or take them off the chair and put them on a car charger, slow charge. They need to be up over 24VDC. If they fall under 24VDC the charger won`t recognize them and won`t charge.
