Jacuzzi start/run capacitator what does it do

to develop the start torque needed to run a two hp or more motor a capacitator is used to temperarly boost the power up(faster than a human can do it) so that motor gets a short extra jolt of power so it can start to turn , unfortuniatly these "caps" dry out in a few seasons from all the heat they make in use and no longer give that "Jolt" needed motor fails to start to move and they require replacement to makeit right again

How do you check the capacitor on a two speed

the capacitor is only used on the start phase of any speed so the procedure is the same , attempt to start motor for a second or two, remove all power from motor, wait 1 minute, use old screwdriver short across the capacitors terminals, a healthy spark should result if not cap is bad , or use a professional capacitor tester (it must be removed out of circuit for this )

Model z-110 white powder build-up around the outside end of the motor. no water leaking at this time. motor runs on 240 v. BOB ADAMS

White powder build up would indicate to me calcium deposit but calcium is usually a pretty hard caked on product once produced.Coming out of the back of the motor is usually caused by the friction of the windings working.Rodwww.uspartscenter.com

Pump is leaking from the cap

If the water is leaking from the trap lid then the o-ring is not properly set or the lid is cracked.Try using some silicone based lube on the o-ring and then reset the lid making sure the o-ring is properly resting on the outer lip of the pump pot. RodUS Parts Center

My jacuzzi clicks like it

If you have the proper voltage into and out of the time clock, you may have a bad start/run capacitor. I would need to know if it hums and then trips the breakers and if the shaft is free to the point you can turn the impeller with your finger.

I do have inground pool

I'd suggest the 1.5 HP Hayward Super Pump, model SP2610X15. It's layout makes fitting it into the footprint of the Jacuzzi easier since it's ports roughly line up and are smaller in spread than the jacuzzi. Any pump will require some monor replumbing; the Haywards should be the least intrusive.

Another good choice would be the Pentair Whisperflow in a 1.5HP with or without the variable spped features.

Hello,I have an old jacuzzi

hi,

ok so when the pump is on high and the heater is running it doesent trip? you didnt say if it did. undo the heater leads so the pump is isolated completely. run the pump on the control centers gfci and see if it trips. if it does then try wiring directly - with an extension cord to a plug with a gfci in your house and see if it trips the gfci in your bathroom. if no trip inside house then bypass tubs gfci and run it with heater and pump through your bathroom gfci. if no trip then try and replace the tubs gfci, it gets pretty humid in the control center and gfci's have a semiconductor which which do fail after years of rough duty like that. if it trips the gfci in your house with the heater again it has a cracked heater element. craigslist always has old hot tubs and parts. you might have to buy a whole used old hot tub but that may be cheaper than a new heater box.

I have the wires undone

There is nothing else you need to loosen; your pump is simply stuck. It is common for Jacuzzi pumps to be difficult to take apart. You need to keep working the motor side-to-side and up & down till it finally frees from the housing.

Change pump seal

Frank,
I could not find a manual to refer you to as jacuzzi is very proprietary with their products, they want you to pay their techs for help. I will do my best to walk you through it using the parts diagram here: http://www.poolinspections.com/manuals/pumps/jacuzzi_magnum.pdf

Disconnect power
remove pump mounting nut
seperate motor from pump
remove the diffuser which is on top of the imeller
now remove the end cap at the rear of the motor (should be 2 1/4" hex screws)
this should expose the back end of the motor shaft.
find an open ended wrench to secure the end of the motor shaft we just exposed (typically is a 7/16" wrench)
*if this unit has a center screw securing the impeller to the other end of the shaft, unscrew this by turning CLOCKWISE (this would be a reverse thread screw)
next while locking onto the end of the motor shaft with the open ended wrench, spin the impeller counter clockwise until removed. This is where you will find the shaft seal. pay attention to how it is installed.
remove shaft seal
install new shaft seal
reassemble.
Note: it is highly recommended to secure new orings while replacing this seal (unless its new)
if you attempt this and one of the o-rings has deteriorated, it will not fit back together properly.

My pump is humming but wiil not start

Thank you for posting your question here on Fixya.com.

It could be the pump is bound up but it is more likely the motor is failing. It may be a small part such as the capacitor or the starting switch, but could also be more severe such as the winding itself. You will also want to examine the shaft where it passes thru the pump and motor and look for signs of rust from a pump seal leak.

If you are not familiar with testing these parts your best bet would be a local electric motor repair shop to see if the motor can be repaired or if it would need to be replaced. They should also be able to ensure there is no pump damage.

If this answer does not fix your problem, please comment with additional details prior to rating the answer. Positive feedback is appreciated once your problem is solved!

Release the small yellow locking post (if it is present) by lifting it out of the hole. Once out of the way turn the large nut holding the motor portion in place counter clockwise. Use a wide chisel or scrapper and a mallet to free it if it is stuck. Tap lightly to avoid breaking the ring.
