All motors have an electrical diagram on the side of the unit. This easily explains where to place wiring. Since we did not install your electrical wires, we have no idea what your color code system is. Just have to use the diagram
I have a flo master xp2 / 48 frame / 230V / 2.5 hp
You shorted the 230 lines at the motor terminal board. If you are certain you have reset any and all breakers feeding the spa and that the 230V is getting back to the pump motor then you blew the winding leads as you shorted the motor. While it is possible a motor shop could repair the leads it is far more likely the damage caused will cause the price to be that or more of a replacement motor.

Thermal switch should not be causing the problem. It is much more likely that the problem is the motor, or shorted wiring. If there is a thermal overload switch it will be mounted inside the tail of the motor, but you may need to completely pull the motor apart to get to it. Is the breaker tripping only when you turn the pump on? what I mean is if the pump is off will the breaker reset, and then only trips when you try and turn on the pump? check wiring closely where it comes into the motor, and look for bad insulation where it might be touching the frame or another wire. If your familiar with motors and windings, you can also disconnect the wires from the motor and check the windings with an ohm meter. How old is the pump? and how long has it been installed. Is this a new problem on an old installation? or did you just install the a new motor? Also if you still suspect the motor, might be worth taking down to a pool pump repair shop if there's one near by most will test a motor for you for free. If you need more help, post a comment and'll I'll reply asap. Good Luck!

They make impeller wrenches but they are costly and are usually spefic to the pump you want use it on. I will usually put a screwdriver in the edge of a fin on the left side of the impeller and give it a hard hit with a hammer. Quite often this will break it free and spin it off. Be careful not to break the impeller when you do this. Good luck.
Wiring diagram for flo-master 56 frame xp2
The side of the motor will have a wiring diagram for how to connect the common, low and high speed leads. Your wire harness should have a white (common), black (usually low), red (usually high) and green (ground) wire. If high and low are backwards, switch the black and red leads.
