How do we get the

Hello,

How are you today? I hope well. This is a pretty simple project to get wheel off.

To remove tire & hub from tiller, place tiller on a secure jack or stand, remove front cap, behind wheel in hub & axle you will find a pin that goes through both, punch out with a punch or type of ice pick. You know something similar in your garage if you don't have a punch. Even a small Phillips screw driver could work. Of course when putting back on reverse procedure, might be able to use same pin if not damaged in process of removing it. Hope this helps, Mike

My 5 horsepower pony tiller

I also was having issues with an old 5 horse Troy Built tiller that would fire when gas was in the tank then stop running. If it's a Briggs and Stratton engine like the one I have it's probably you can remove the muffler to gain access to the side of the carb. Remove the four screws and the cover off the fuel pump diphram and check to make sure that the rubber isn't cracked or degraded. I replaced the one I had and it now runs like a champ.

I have a 5 hp troybilt pony tiller. The axle seals

http://www.mtdparts.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/OperatorManualView?storeId=10101&catalogId=19502&langId=-1

Go to this website and type in PONY for your model number and find your operator manual by your serial number. The operator manual should have detailed instructions on how to replace your seals.
On the Horse model you remove the wheels and then carefully use a couple of screw drivers to pry out the old seals being careful not to scratch the wheel shaft sealing area. Then polish the wheel shaft with fine emery cloth to remove any sharp edges. Then grease the wheel shafts and carefully slide the new wheel seals on and use a piece of plastic PVC pipe cut square that will slide over the shaft and gently drive the seal to the depth the old seals were installed at. You dont even have to drain the gear oil. Getting the wheels off the wheel shaft is sometimes a problem if they are rusted on. if you can get the wheels off its not to hard to change the seals.

That tiller was made sometime between 7/1/78 and 1/1/79. This is the Horse II model and is a four speed one belt tiller. The Horse I was a two speed two belt tiller. These are very good tillers if they have been reasonably taken care of.

It just clicks when i try to start it, wont turn

ureCheck battery charge it should have 12 to 13 volts if it is fully charged.Check all electrical connections from battery to starter and ground wires. Check the solinoid ,it must make a good electrical connection internally to make the starter motor run.If you are getting at least 12 volts to the starter motor and it still wont turn the starter may be bad. Also be sure that the engine can be rotated normally.

Can't get lawn mower to start have gas,

Starving for gas problems are sometimes a bad gasket where the carb bolts onto the engine, it leaks air. Maybe your bolts are loose. If they changed then carb, they might have reused the same gasket or not have tightened the bolts enough.

My Troy riding mower Pony will not start .. Turn

Have you replaced the battery or the starter? I would start with the battery because if you do not keep the battery warm over the colder months it will drain without the ability to hold a charge.

Oil seal for rear tine shaft

The serial number is located on a flat spot just above the right wheel shaft where the gear housing and the top gear cover meet. It will be a six digit number stamped in the metal.

I have a troy built horse rear tine tiller serial

If it has the reverse fiber disk on it. Take it off 1st and it will allow the engine to go down farther. Most of the time if you take the pully bolt from the engine out the pulley will come of when you pull out on the housing. You must remove the slide pins for this to happen though. There are set bolts on the side to remove the slide pins. It is still a little tuff to get the belts in and make sure they go inside the belt guides on both sides. I just take 1 slide pin out of mine and swing it out a little to put mine on.

I have a troybilt pony tiller made on 1/22/79. On

One is a serial number and the other is a part number ... This tiller was built in Troy, New York by Gardenway Manufacturing. Unfortunately, that family owned company is out of business. Whether there is still manufacturing in Troy New York, I am not sure but it is not the same company today as it was in 1979.

The assets, including the name, were purchased (and some sold) by several manufacturers, notably, MTD. The Troy products sold today are similar to the Troy products of the Gardenway Manufacturing. In my experience, there is no better customer service than that I received from GardenWay. The 6.5 was a big Pony ... I purchased a Horse about the same time and it is a 6.0 hp Techumsa. I am on my second engine and I wouldn't take twice the $ for it.

This tiller probably cost in the vicinity of $800.00 delivered.

There is a company in Canada that has specs on most Troy Models ... and access to lots of Troy parts, though thre are lots of other places that sell parts and have diagrams as well.

At one point Briggs was making 'flails' for the Troy Chipper Shredder ...

I hope this helps you with your tiller ... It is a teriffic machine.
