What kind of motor is in a hedge trimmer ?

NO, you can NOT put a hedge trimmer motor on a bike! That motor is too little, it will not produce enough torque to move the bike.

What can I use to clean my electric hedge trimmer

Go to your local Advance Auto store and purchase some brake cleaner. Spray it on any dirt that is there...air hose it off first, than after spraying it. When you get it as clean as you like...take some WD40 or any oil would be good and spray it on the cutter. Take the air hose and blow off the excess and you will be good to go the next time you need it.

Blade does not move when turned on

Try spraying the blade assembly with a good rust remover like PB Blaster or even WD 40. Might be something is rusted and won't let blades move. When you are done trimming reapply some oil to displace any water that comes out of whatever you are trimming.
Good luck

Placement of switch mechanism

Go to www.toolpartsdirect.com and in the search box select brand and enter your model number and you should be able to find a break-down of your machine which will give you an idea as to how it goes together.I tried the GT249/H1 and GT249 as the model number and it didn't come up so you will have to look for a tag with the model and serial number on it for the correct number.

Black and Decker 16 in Hedge Trimmer

I use a dremel with a sharpening stone, if u don't have one you can also use a power drill with a small sanding disk (1 inch) and course sand paper (30 or 40 grit). or you can use a bastard file. its too tight to use any kind of angle guide so just take your time and do it by eye. it shouldn't take much to get them sharp enough to do the job, over-sharpening is unnecessary and dangerous, and will make the blades dull faster. sharpen all the free blades, top and bottom, then start the trimmers to advance the blades to free up the sides you couldn't get. i use a light penetrating oil to clean the blades first, then lithium grease spray to lubricate.

Which post is positive on a hpb12 Black & Decker battery

The fifth picture from the top at https://www.homedepot.com/p/BLACK-DECKER-12-Volt-NiCd-Battery-Pack-1-5Ah-HPB12/202504240 indicates the positive terminal is the left hand one, as you face the side of the battery that slides into the tool. Thus it's on the right as you hold the spring latch on the other side of the battery. I hope this helps. Cindy Wells
