You have a safety switch that is bad or not making connection. There is a clutch safety switch and a seat switch. Try to set the parking brake and see if the blades start, if they do then die when removing the brake, it is probably the seat switch.

This mower uses a voltage regulator on top of the engine. The magneto and regulator are usually one assembly.

To freewheel the tractor using the freewheel lever at the rear of the tractor would not damage the tractor. Check your belts and make sure the lever is all the way back in.

The problem with an electric cluch is that when the engine is running without the clutch engaged the clutch can turn into a dynamo which then passes power back up to the switch, most machines will have a diode close to the clutch in the wireing to stop the current flowing back to the switch, so i guess the diode is bad on your machine and power is flowing back to the switch and melting it,

get an accredited mower repair shop to check the charging circuit

Sounds like a weak coil. When cold it's good when hot it loses spark.

This seems to be the correct part no. for the 36" deck, is the belt definitley the correct one, it should have the no. 174978 marked on it.

be sure it is the correct one for that mower and it is on correctly and it is from a lawn mower parts store. not one from tractor supply or rural king.

The belts will be different in lenght and the corret lenght is very important for proper function.

the brand huskee is now manufactured by MTD Parts are available from tractor supply company at www.tractorsupply.com there are pages of not very encouraging reviews about the huskee mower or about the tractor supply company but you can contact them to see what you can get as for the problem , if it is a zero turn unit it may be a clutch arrangement needs adjustment If you do not get any help from that company, you could ring around the mower repairs shops to get an idea as what could be wrong as the principle of operation will be the same . also there are sites that have pdf versions of the workshop manual for huskee

Check your tensioning bracket, when parked and engine off, lower the deck, look underneath from the left hand brake pedal side and work the brake pedal by hand take notice of the bracket with two pulleys mounted on it that move with the brake pedal being pressed and depressed, if you have vertical? up and down movement opposed to horizontal fwd and back movement your bracket mount and or bushing could be worn out.. Mine was, and after replacement it was like the day I bought it new.

Check to see if you left the blades engaged. There is a safety switch that prevents starting with blades engaged. Easy to miss, happened to a friend of mine last month.

Husqvarna uses a blade style 20 amp fuse. They are usually clipped to the dash just below the ignition switch under the hood.

Some of those are adjusted by bending the tie rod.
