The reason for this is because one of the internal connecting rods is no longer connected to one of the blades, so either the rod has broken, or the dowel in the blade has broken out, you will need to open the end cover of the gearbox to assess what has happened.

If the belt is on, take it off. Check ALL of your pullies and idlers. Spin them, they should spin smoothly & quietly. If they feel "crunchy" or make excessive noise or if it is bent, replace. Also, try to wiggle them side ways. If it wobbles, replace. If this is on a mower deck, you may have to engage the blades to release a blade brake. Safety first. Engine OFF. Spark plug(s) & battery disconnected. Don't be that guy, saver your fingers.
