How to wire a compressor to switch

Your pressure switch should have four wire attachment screws on the switch tower and two ground points on the metal frame/base. Most switches label the four screws in pairs as LINE and MOTOR. If they're not labeled, use an ohm meter to make sure you don't connect the cord to a direct short. Usually the bottom two are for the LINE or power cord connection. The upper two are for the cord going to the MOTOR. There should be two screws on the metal base for the ground lines or at least two holes for the screws, some switches come without the screws. Make sure you ground the unit as compressing air creats a lot of static electricity.

Air is not building up pressure

There may be few causes for this.1. The piston rings are worn out. If lot of oil comes in your receiver tank ththis is the indication to tell you that the piston rings and oil scraper needs to be changed.2. The leaf springs strip is broken or worn out. If air is coming out of the suction filter open the compressor head with proper marking check and then fix back the same way you opened it.3. One of the gasket is damaged or broken. Once again you will find air blowing out from the suction filter.

Coleman powermate compressor wont start. It has always ran fine. Went out and the tank has no pressure. Everything looks Ok, but it wont start. Doesnt even make a sound. There is power at the plug

Two main things to check are the motor circuit breaker and pressure switch. Without knowing your model number I don't know exactly where to tell you to look but somewhere on the electric motor, or plastic housing if it's remotely mounted, there should be a reset switch/button. They are usually red or white, sometimes black. Push it in and see if the motor works. If the breaker keeps popping off there is something making the motor work too hard like bad bearings in the motor or pump, piston/cylinder issues, etc. To check the pressure switch, unplug the cord or turn off the circuit breaker. Remove the cover on the pressure switch and find the wires from the cord and motor. You can jump them on the switch (black to black & white to white) or disconnect them and connect the two black wires together and two white wires together. Turn on the power and if the motor turns on it's the switch if not it may be that your motor is burnt up inside. Don't let it continue to run like this because it will overfill the tank to dangerous levels without the pressure switch wired in.

Coleman POWERMATE Lo502710. Compressor runs and

There is a problem with your pressure switch. You should have a little black box with a red lever to turn your air compressor on and off. This housing contains your pressure switch, the pressure switch sends an electrical signal to the switch to make your air compressor run. When enough pressure builds up the pressure switch activates, and breaks the signal until the pressure drops below a certain point. I will do some more research on your compressor and find out which pressure switch you need to order. i need you to find any numbers on the compressor you can, serial number, model, stock number, anything you can to help me find the part number. Thank you for patience,Calvin Smith

When replacing the piston/rod assembly,

The cylinder /piston with teflon/silicone ring is install dry. Insert the piston at an angle into the cylinder for easier entry. Good time to also replace the bearing even though it may spin fine. This bearing is the same as used on many alternators and is available at auto parts stores. Use the bearing number on the side of the bearing. Its not expensive. If you do not have a bearing puller, use dremmel tool with metal cutting blade to cut outer ring then inner ring. Before you tighten all the bolts turn the crank so that the piston goes thru the motion of full rotation. If everything seems good to go then tighten all bolts, plug-in and give-um air! Good luck with your repair.

Take about 30 min to fill tank is this normal?

No. Normal would be one or two minutes. Either your piston is not sealing well, or the reed valve that acts as a one-way air ratchet is not sealing well. If it looses pressure while sitting idle, it's the reed valve.

I have disassembled and cleaned the pressure

The laws of physics dictate that when you compress air, it will increase in temperature, so it is quite normal for the pump and connecting pipes to get quite hot (ie: to hot to touch) reasonably quickly and associated tank and hoses to get warm also.
Make sure oil level in pump is at the correct level as it provides cooling as well as lubrication for the pump.

Air from compressor is WAY TOO HOT! Model

First check the condition of your air filter. Clean or replace as necessary.

Second time how long it takes for the compressor to build from 0-125 psi. If you have the 15gallon tank and it takes more than 3 or 4 min to build up then you have valve problems. If you have the 27 gallon tank it shouldn't take more than 7 min to build up.

If your pump up times are ok then you need to look at the duty cycle. Compressors such as yours should not be on more than 50% of the time. So if you use the compressor for 2 hours of work it should not be pumping for more than 1 hour of the time.

If your pump is working more than 50% or pumping continuously then you need a bigger compressor for your tasks.

The only other factor to consider is the room temperature. If the room where the compressor is is too hot it only magnifies the problem.

Hope that helps

Unloader valve releases a lot of air when

This is usually a problem with the check valve. The unloader valve on your pressure switch is designed to bleed the pressure off the head of the compressor. With a leaking check valve the pressure isn't relieved from the head and the pump can't turn causing the motor to overload and blow the breakers.

To troubleshoot your problem try the following:

Trace the 1/4" line that connects to the unloader back to the tank. You'll find a fitting there. Remove the lines and then the fitting. Sometimes cleaning that valve will alleviate the problem. If not you need to replace the check valve.

Hope that helps.
