Pride Celebrity X 3-Wheel Electric Scooter Questions & Answers
Battery won't charge
If the battery wont charge the item will need a service engineer to test it. I am not sure of the particular model but there is a possibility that either the charger itself is at fault OR the charging circuit has either a diode or capacitor damaged.
If the charger plugs into a 240v socket in the house have the charger checked to show voltage is being output by it.
If it is then how old is the battery on the scooter? does it need replacing? have a voltage test done.
If both the battery and wall charger if there is one is OK then I would say another part of the vehicles circuitry made be at fault and suggest you have it looked at. .
Motor voltage error Code 8
Possible Control System Trip
A control system trip is indicated. Make sure that all connections are secure.
Why won't it operate?
How many flashes on green light. Count them and you should find in the trouble shooting section of your user manual what the problem is. Most cases you can sort yourself.
More on Celebrity X motor overheating. Brushes look good. Brake does not seem to be dragging, Batteries are about 5 years old but hold a good charge when not in use for months,
If the motor is overheating, it is drawing far more current out of
the batteries than it is supposed to. Assuming it is 2 x 13v x 33ah
batteries, these are good for about 2 to 3 years on my scooter and 'wheelchair. AGM (absorbent glass mat) lead acid batteries do deteriorate over time due to battery chemistry.
Although the batteries may appear to take a charge
and the voltage 12.6volt x 2 = 25.2 volts nominal, with no load
on them, the motor controller takes a whack of current to get you going.
I have an digital voltmeter/ammeter installed on my Pride XL scooter and I was amazed how much current the motor/motor controller takes from the batteries. 50 to 80amps on startup.
If the battery voltage drops due to the age of the batteries, as the
energy is being used up from them, the current required by the
motor for rotation has to go up, and that will cause overheating of the controller and the motor. It is Ohms law plain and simple
the less voltage available-the more current required to do the
work and current creates the heating effect.
I replace my batteries every two years. Can't take a chance on
being stuck with discharged batteries.
Celebrity x charging fuses
Hidden under the floor mat and hatch, you'll find two high amp fuses that Pride say don't exist! - they do. Be careful with the rubber mat lugs they deform and are tricky to reseat.
the fuses are standard car fuses. It's busually the red 10 Amp fuse that's blown.
the cause of the problem may possibly be the three pin XLR cable/ plug.
Why wont my celebrity x3 charge
Try the Charging circuit fuses hidden under the mat and floor hatch.
Is the charger OK?
Are the batteries coming to the end of their life?
Shroud function
It's the red battery cover under the seat. Carefully lift and remove the seat and you'll find that the shroud is simply attached with velcro
Flashing light error
Download the service manual from Pride's website for detailed instructions on what the flashes mean and how to fix it.
Speed pot error
The speed pot needs to be checked for a loose connection. If it looks good then the pot needs replaced.
Flashing error codes
Carefully count the number of flashes that occur in each sequence; for instance, it will flash 5 times, pause, and flash 5 times again. Go through several sequences to make sure your count is correct as it will always be the same number of flashes.
Here is the owners manual, go to page 37 to find the flash code page and look up your number. Then post that back here for more information on how to proceed.

What makes the speed pot go bad on a 3 wheel celebrity x scooter
Yup you gt a code seven failure code, speed pot malfunction . What pots typically do is that they oxidise. This pt is aa variable rersistor that opeates between 0 - 30k ohms. When tuning the pot it shoud ram up and down smoothly. To test for this You may also need a VOM meter only $9 http://www.amazon.com/Mastech-YG188-Pocket-size-analog-multimeter/dp/B00064CH6A/ref=sr_1_8?s=hi&ie=UTF8&qid=1339024102&sr=1-8Disconnect batteries from the scooter. Simply attach the multimeter to the pots terminals, select correct ohms scale and watch the needle. Th needle when turning the pot should movee gracefully up to 30k down to zero as the pot dial scooter speed increases. Faaailure is detected when the needle jumps around, the oxidation causes the pot to connect inteermitently. USE CRC CONTACT Cleaner to get the oxidation out of the pot. The potss are not sealed so there are little holes you can spray into. Use liberal of cleanner.
