I think it will be most likely a semi-conductor device that is overheating. Probably the main amp device. Subs are basically mono amplifiers.

My sub woofer humms when idle

The humming could be a couple things.. First try a different outlet in a different room..Make sure the RCA is firmly in place if using LFE and none of the speaker wires strands are touching if using Hi-Lvl input. Also if using Hi-Lvl you might be getting feed back from the Amp.

Rattling sound with any significant base output

You either ripped your voice coil, or you have something jumping around inside (Screw, nail, etc.). You can tell of a blown speaker by pressing straight in, and if you hear a rubbing noise, then your speaker has disconnected from your voice coil. Mickey mouse jobs include Krazy Glue, but It's touch and go

Before we get too committed to a direction to go, or embark on unnecessary surgery, can we establish that we KNOW it's the speaker and not the amp or source? Perhaps you could swap it with the other one.

Back to basics: is this a sudden-onset problem or did it always behave like this? Try swapping locations with the other one. Bass response is a lot about location, location, location. Standing waves, self-cancellation, phasing. All players in this game.

It seems my Sunfire True Sub sig needs repair, but how to do it?

Capacitors either fail spectacularly or in a very subtle way. Every once in a while, they'll explode, in which case it's very easy to spot the one that needs to be replaced, but generally they fail internally, with no visible problems.
(very old units used a wet electrolyte, and the capacitors simply dried out inside)

If you are able to determine which cap is bad, you will definitely need soldering skills to replace it - no way around that.

Soldering isn't difficult to learn, but I can't help you over the internet. :) If there's a craigslist in your area, you might try posting to the "Wanted" section to see if someone can teach you how.

Best of luck to y

How a hook up my subwoofer with the pc?

Hello

You need to build or buy a certian cable. The cable goes from RCA to mini jack. You plug the mini jack into your computer and the RCA into the input of the sub. I really hope this can help.

Best regards

Has light but no sound

The first thing to always check first is the fuse. This will probably involve some disassembly but it is alwayst the cheapest fix and a constant issue.
