My Model # 362 Belt sander keeps breaking belts

This is usually indicative of someone pushing down on the sander too hard while sanding. The motor in this sander is strong enough to pull the belt around even with too much pressure on the sander. This causes excessive heat to build in the sanding belt and sander shoe which causes the belt to break down prematurly. It's also very hard on the sander's bearings and motor. Use an appropriate sandpaper grit that will do the job without excessive pressure on the worksurface. This will make your sanding belts and sander work longer and cooler.

Just stopped turning, motor still running though

I take it that the rear drum stopped turning and if so the drive belt or one if the pulleys could be your problem. I would be doubtful if the gears are stripped. Give me the model number and brand and I will find a schematic for you. If this is the Porter Cable sander. on the side with the black cover you will find 3 screws that you can remove, UNPLUG tool first and take a quick look to maybe find your problem. Let me know if I can help further

How to installe drive belt porter cable belt

unplug tool first and then remove the 3 screws on the side cover to expose the pulleys, while apart clean the entire area with compressed air. start the belt on the smaller pulley and then ROLL it onto the larger one and after it is installed roll it a few more times to make fully seated. reinstall the cover and screws and you are ready to go. they made 2 different belt types for this tool so make sure that you get the correct one. the older one has ridges that go the entire area of the belt and the newer one has cogs spaced out.

After installing new belt, on Porter Belt Sander

There is a tracking adjustment knob on the side of the sander--adjust one way or the other until it tracks properly. This is something that will change by itself as the sander is being used--check periodically.

My porter cable 362 belt sander will not adjust

The slide arm mechanisms and tension arm, springs, etc. need a little light machine oil, 3-in-1, to make them slide easly, a few dropes will do the trick, do not over oil. Move the adjustment knob just hair at a time or it will over adjust, hope this helps you.

Smells like wires buning

Motor may just need new brushes, Cooling vents may be clogged with dust. or bearings in the motor or front roller maybe bad. Causing excessive drag
blow it all out with compressed air or shopvac
look for external brush caps (2) oppsite from each other take them out to be sure they slide freely, sometimes one gets hug up and doesn't make good contact

I have a PC Model 136 Belt sander--I know it's

I also have a PC Model 136 belt sander. Although I don't do a lot of woodworking, it has proved to be a workhorse when I needed it. I don't have a problem with breaking belts - the last ones I bought at OSH. The problem that has developed with mine is getting the belt alignment adjusted, after a belt change, to not run against the sander body. A little banging (with my hand) will correct the problem. I have serviced it to free up the fulcrum, but it still jams most of the time. This doesn't address your problem, but it is good to hear of someone else who appreciates the fine older tools. Just a further thought - the newer belts I have purchased are bi-directional, e.g., they will run either way. I know that the older belts had to run one way and running them backward could - almost surely would - cause them to break. I won't insult your intelligence to suggest that that might be your problem.

How do i take apart a model 7812 porter cable vacuum to change brushes

The brushes are not replaceable - it is an entire motor assembly. 1) remove the 2 screws holding the top handle on 2) remove the 2 screws on the top of the housing (front either side of switch) 3) remove single screw holding cord hook (rear side of housing) 4) remove small torx screw in the shaker handle and remove the handle Flip over and using a screwdriver begin to pry the top cover off the housing (easiest to get the front side off first)
