Clarke Power Products Inc AC2001 2HP 4 Gallon Pancake Tank Compressor - Page 5 Questions & Answers
Clarke AC 2001 Pancake Compressor. It needs the correct capacitor. I bought one at Grainger and it started to blow smoke.
You don't need the exact capacitor. You need one that is for AC and meets the minimum requirement OR more. So you can use a larger cap as long as it fits under the cover. On Craigslist you can find old compressors of the same type that are worn out and get the part that way. Get the information of the cap and email various online electrical component places. It will say voltage, and capacitance rated in microfarad aka uF so 120v 4800uF. etc.
Be sure that you have diagnosed the underlying problem as capacitors don't just wear out. So the Granger one might still be correct but the underlying problem that burned out the original is probably the real problem.
Finally, if you need to run ANY compressor for and extended amount of time place a house fan next to it and consider removing the plastic cover. I ran a sears compressor for over 2 hours with this method 20 years ago and to this day it still works! Keep it cool!
How to wire 3 phase compressor
depends if motor is wired in star or delta configeration as this determines strapping links in motor terminal box. check voltage for your country on motor data plate and this will tell you the configeration
Air compressor wont start
does it try to start. If it is single phase check capacitor or smell inside motor housing if smells really nasty motor is burnt out
