Devise doesn't turn on

Hi shaneboy

plug the unit into your usb cable on your computer and let it charge for at least 2 hours, then try again.

if that fails, try the reset, the reset is on the bottom of your Xl using a papre clip insert it in the little pin hole but make sure remove the sd card and you have let it charge for at least 2 hours before trying to start or resetting the unit.

Can the tom tom xl 330s get a memory upgrade and if so how. Thanx

No, what you see is what you get, there is no slot for an SD card or any other form factor, the internal memory is also not upgradable.

Red x on Tom Tom

This is TomToms fix, apparently something went wrong with the software, my advice would be to make a back up of the device using the TomTom home software.
This issue can come from disconnecting the device while it is attached to the computer and software while it is busy, always make sure you use the eject device in the TomTom home software if you are connected to the PC.

My tom tom xl keeps needing gps fix updates every

Done some reserach on the web re this. Basically your satnav is broken. GPXFIX downloads a list of satellites which your device then uses - but as the satellites move - you need a new copy of gpxfix.

Try holding the power button in for about 15 - 20 seconds to see if it comes on, do this whilst plugged into a computer or your car.

Tom tom 130 and/or 130S

The solution to TomTom freezing problems is to throw these pieces of foreign made junk in the trash. My 130 never worked since it was new because it is a cheap bottom feeder GPS full of recycled Chinese components. The trash can is the solution.

I can not get the language changed to English (USA)

You inadvertently must have changed the language while toggling voice/speech settings. You need to navigate to preferences, and then voice settings, denoted by the lips or flag icon, depending on which unit, and you can change the language from there

I have a Tom Tom GPS and all of a sudden it says

To pinpoint your location, you need to get signals from at least 4 satellites. If you receive signals from less than 4 satellites or the signals are not strong enough, the Driving View stays grey and one of the following messages is shown in the bottom right corner of the Driving View:
  • Waiting for a valid GPS signal…
  • The GPS signal was lost … sec ago
Note: In previous versions of the TomTom application the message may vary.

If you see any of these messages, try the following:

Finding a GPS signal
In the following cases it can take up to 5 minutes to find your current position:
  • You use your TomTom device for the first time.
  • You haven't used your TomTom device for a longer time.
  • Your TomTom device has been relocated without using it (e.g. after travelling by plane or train).
If it takes longer than 5 minutes, make sure that you are in an open place without tall buildings or trees around you.
Once your TomTom device has located your current position, the Driving View is shown in full colour and shows your position on the map.
Tip: Most TomTom devices can use QuickGPSfix™ to locate your current position faster.

Clear View
Your TomTom device must be outdoors to locate your current position.
Try repositioning your device in your car; ideally, try to position it at the lowest possible point directly on the windscreen.
Some vehicles have a heat reflective shield embedded in the windscreen, which may prevent your device from locating your current position. If this is the case in your vehicle, use the TomTom External Antenna Kit (available as an accessory).
Tip: As a reference, place your device outside your parked car to see if it can find your current position.

Make sure battery is fully charged before use

Reset your device

I have a XL, we just downloaded/recent updates on

take the unit outside so that it has a clear view to the open sky, turn the unit on, then push the reset onthe side(you need a paper clip). let in sit outside to Aguire the satellites. this may take upto 30 minutes. if that does not work, you can try the latest update again. bill

No start up

i had the same problem. if you turn the unit upside down, at the back you will see the gold connectors, look underneath and to the left hand side and you will see a small hole that has been cut into the black plastic.(Better seen with a magnifying glass) this is the reset button, use the blunt end of a needle and hold in for 10 seconds, this resets, and to date i have only had to do this twice.
Hope this resolves your problem.

I live in Houston and the temp today is 104. I

Ok....this is quite simple. The GPS device you are using is only designed to work properly in a temperature range. You said it was a 104. I am currious what was the temp in the car? Probably allot higher. If the unit has been in the car it will be more like 160 or higher which explains the trouble you are having receiveing the signal. The anntenna in the unit becomes distored or expans due to the etreme heat and therefore can not receive the return signal you send up to the sattelite. The sattellites are working fine. They are in space and are operating under a whole different temperature range like sub zero. I suggest remove the gps unit from window definently and also from the vehicle itself if the windows are rolled up as the ari temp in the car will be allot higher. Also you may want to refer to the owners manual as there are guidelines for use of the product or temperature range it will work inn.

Also the extreme heat will also put a toll on the battery in the unit as well and could fail under these conditions and leak and ruining the gps altogether. I know it might be a pain in the but to take it off the window and remove it but if you do that the device should work again. The anntenna expans so much do to the heat it fails to receive the signal back at its proper tuned frequency. Hence that why it gives you incorrect data or does not work at all. Take the unit inside on these hot days. You may want to spend a few bucks on a turkey thermoter and just lay it on the dash and check it around 3PM on a bright sunny hot day. You will be surprised how hot the air is inside the car. Hope that helps you out!
