Do not panic, the problem is that one or more files failed that is why is says on at least one file, The solution is for you to format the tom tom, then you reinstall its software on it, that should do the job. Before you do that, be sure to try to reset it, if resetting it does not help, then, reinstall its operating system.

Yes , it should be covered by warranty. It's not a common problem but sometimes batteries do fail. It's a bit like when a light bulb goes in your house , you can get a brand new one out of the cupboard , plug it in and it either goes right away or only lasts a short while. Where thats the case the bulb was in fact defective and not fit for purpose. Same with your Tomtom battery . Good luck when you contact TomTom.

Your GPS transceiver(Transmitter/reciever) is not working.It is either obstructed by a metal plate or any part of your vehicle or the cone where the signal is detected is disconnected from the circuit board.Try relocating the unit to where there is no obstruction(any metal).If this does not work it needs servicing.The transceiver is usually located on the middle top side of the unit.It is the antenna where the GPS satellite signal is recieved.

If you are using Trend Micro virus software change the Firewall profile ot HOME NETWORK. I was helping my friend today with the same problem and after I changed the profile the FREE update worked.

Leave the gps on for at least an hour, letting it search for a signal. From personal experience, I can tell you that some GPS's have problems searching for satalites. It could also be your particular area, in which case there is no solution besides using it somewhere else.

my tom tom won't give street names.

I suggest plugging into pc and boot satnav. Tomtom home should pop up, if installed. Reload map from software on pc.

Try to unscrew te back cover. Try to disconnect the battery. And then connect it to its own connection. Try to open the and see the result. Then close the back cover again. Turn on the item. Reset GPS by using its settings.

Directly open the settings and reset the item.

Switch on the GPS at your home location. Verify that the location shown on the map correspond to your Home location (The street or avenue you are standing matches with that shown on the GPS). Once this is settled, tap on the screen. Tap on :change preferences. Tap on :arrow (on Preferences 1 of 6 page). Tap on: change home location (on Preferences 2 of 6 page). Tap on: arrow. Tap on: My location. You should see Home location changed info and pop into the main screen.

Connect the GPS to the computer. Forget the Tom Tom home for a little while. Use the windows explorer or file manager. Check whether the TomTom is shown as a drive. If yes, Right click on it. Then click properties. Check how much is the used space and how much is the free space. If you see that there is only about 50MB free space, that could be the reason. Tomtom update do not seem to overwrite the map file. Now check the properties of the new map file. It may be approximately around 1.3 GB to 1.5 GB. Since I do not have a Europe map I do not have the correct size. If the new map size is anything bigger than the available space on your GPS drive, then the update will not complete and crash. Solution. Copy the existing map (North American map has a name something like USA_Canada_and_Mexico_P) folder to your computer. Once you have a secure copy, delete this map folder from your GPS drive. You will now see that you have approximately 1.7GB of free space. copy the map folder from your CD to your GPS drive. Once copying is complete, safely remove the GPS from USB port. Restart and try it out on a known route to check efficiency.

However, I find it very unfortunate that you had difficulty wit this GPS because I use the same unit in Canada and I find it way better than the Megallan I had. Did you try to update to the latest map. If not give that a try using TomTom home. It may be a good idea to check the Planning preferences screen (This option is on Preferences 4 of 6). Try changing one or two options on planning preferences and check whether the GPS behaves better.

antitheftw.bmp That file cannot be written to the Drive, "G" If possible, ensure there is a "G" drive, or set it so there is. Also ensure that the "G" drive, is not a read only, setting, if there is a "G" drive, make a blank, notepad doc, and call it antitheftw.bmp, that may just fool it into working. Or simply find the real file, and either put it where it wants or copy it to the GPS, files folder.

I assume it works ok in the U.S., and most of Mexico. Assuming that, it will be one of two things. 1. Either the locations are not programmed into their software, or you need an update to your GPS. My guess is that they haven't updated yet. I would message Tom Tom to let them know your concerns- sometimes the squeaky wheel gets the grease. Good luck, know it's aggravating.

I have the same problem, I drive the Audi A8 which has a UV filter built into the glass, it blocks the signal, the only way around it is to use an external aerial, only £5 on eBay
