Locked up
Check your battery polarity. Unlike most devices on the market, the Olympus recorders have both their batteries pointing the same direction. Normally the positive end of the battery points toward the bottom. Look inside the batter compartment for the correct polarity.

Olympus no longer offers the printed manual. However, you can download
a copy. Almost any office-supply or printing store should be able to print and bind it for you at a reasonable cost. You'll have to contact the store for the exact cost.

First it would freez up display time and date
Hi shiiiizuka,
Please follow the steps below to correct the issue.
1. Check to see if the battery has been properly loaded and the polarity is in the correct position.
2. Change the battery to make sure it is not dead or low.
3. Check to see if the recorder is set on hold mode. This might interrupt the display. If so, release the hold mode and restart the unit.
If that does not work, try to reset the unit.
In some instances, using the CLEAR function will reset the recorder if it is performing erratically. Files deleted using the CLEAR function cannot be retrieved.
The VN-4100PC is formatted using the CLEAR function. Using the CLEAR function erases the time and date settings as well as all of the files, so be certain the files are saved elsewhere before clearing the recorder. The procedure is as follows:
1. Hold the [STOP] button and [ERASE] button simultaneously for 3 seconds or longer.
2. Press the [>>] or [
3. Press the [PLAY] button. The recorder will be formatted.
Hope it helps.
Thank you for using FixYa.
