Haier HD456 Dehumidifier Questions & Answers
Fan barely turns
If the fan is barely turning, it could be the fan is bad. This fan blows air across a 2 coils.
Does the Fan on a Haier HD456E always run,
I believe the fan is designed to run all the time, and no, it costs very little to run an 18w fan. You can use a timed socket, or switch it on and off when needed. I don't believe the Haier has specific switching times.
The humidiy control is not
There are 5 basic, but solvable reason for what you described. Please pay particular attention to numbers 1 & 2..
1. The humidity extraction level is set to HIGH. Lower it to 32-35%. Your Manually Controlled unit
should be turned to Maximum.
2. Air intake filter is dirty or clogged. Turn unit OFF, & Unplug the
Unit, before removing to inspect & clean it, if necessary. If washed,
allow filter to completely dry before reinstalling. DO NOT operate
the unit without the filter.
3. Obstructed air flow. Maintain a minimum of 12 to 18" of clear air
space around the entire unit.
4. Cooling coils are dirty and need to be cleaned. Use warm water & dish washing liquid to
clean the coils. Rinse and wipe dry. Apply a light coating of WD40 to the coils.
5. Ambient air temperature at floor level is between 40 - 60 degrees.
dehumidifiers do not work well between those temperatures
(Unless, you have a Low Temp Unit). This applies mainly to
where the air
temperature at floor level is colder than at shoulder level
in basement applications. Raising the unit up off the floor,
onto a sturdy table, counter top, etc, that can handle the weight
of the unit, plus a full tank of water, will usually resolve this
problem.
If
none of the above solves the problem, it may be a case of the
compressor needs to be recharged with refrigerant gas or that the humid-i-stat sensor has failed. These things usually occur in units that are
5 years old or older. It's rare in a unit younger than that. But, it
can happen.
I hope this helps you to troubleshoot and solve the problem. Thanks for choosing FixYa.
This is not a new unit and has never had a problem
Since you have already done the things we say to do, with no success and yours is not a new unit. It may be time to replace it. As often is the case, repairing older units can cost as much or more than a price new one. If you have been satisfied up to now with Haier, purchase another one from them. Their new electronic models are Energy Star Rated. However, this time if you do, also purchase and extended warranty. In the long run, it could pay for itself.
Hope this helped you. Please let me know. Thanks.
THE UNIT DOES NOT DEHUMIDIFY, MODEL HD456E, I SET
You are setting the temperature to low. Dehumidifiers do not work well between 40 - 60 degrees F. That's why the word "LO" keeps showing up. Raise the temperature setting and set the humidity extraction level (Arrow Down) at 30-32%. In fact, if you can disregard the temperature setting and the unit will work, do so. That seems to be the fly in the ointment, when it comes to getting everything to work as it should.
Hope this helped you to troubleshoot and solve the problem. Please let me know. Thanks.
UNIT TURNS ON AND RUNS BUT NO WATER IS IN THE
The air intake filter may need cleaning. Also, check the humidity
setting. You may have it set to low. In addition, it wouldn't hurt to
check the drain tube or drain hole (whichever one your unit has) that's
just above the bucket. You'll see it once you remove the bucket. It may
be clogged and is not allowing the water to drain properly. Using a 18"
long plastic Zip Tie or something similar (No wire coat hangers) that
will comfortably fit into the hole ... Carefully and gently run it as
far as you can into the drain hole or tube. The tricky part is when you
reach the bend in the tube. So, tread carefully. Once you have it
inserted as far possible, as you rotate the Zip Tie, slowly pull it out.
Rotating it, will loosen any debris. Be prepared for water to follow.
If
none of the above solves the problem, the compressor in the
dehumidifier may be low on refrigerant gas and will need to be
recharged.
Hope this helps you troubleshoot and solve the problem.

Hi,
There can be many reasons why a dehumidifier will
not work or collect water.
Here is a tip that I wrote to help people to figure out what is going wrong
with their dehumidifier
Dehumidifier is running but no water is in bucket

It runs and sounds normal but there is no water in
Sounds to me like you are low on refrigerant if you can hear the compressor running. Its not worth to pay to get this fixed unless you know someone who can do it for you, cheaper to get a new one
