Bad brushes in extending Remenington pole chain saw

Our local Ace Hardware store has a box of different sizes of motor brushes. See if a store in your area has one or can obtain one. Check with an electric tool repair facility to see if they may have something similar that fits a drill or other appliance. Good luck! (buy extras!)

Good news Victor;
Both a bar and 3 different chains are available through an Oregon dealer. The green chain (hover the cursor over the color and there is an explanation) is most likely what your saw came fitted with but all will work, the choice is yours.

How tight should the chain be? Seems too loose to

If a solid nose bar it needs to be slightly more slack. Judging by the number of requests for adjustment repair kits I suspect it could be beefier initially too.
In answer to your question, with a solid nose bar the chain at the center bottom should just touch. If sprocket nose touch plus 1/8 turn tighter.

We rarely get questions about McCulloch or Poulan, and Wen made a quality product in the past, they are again in production. I cannot vouch for the quality today and they may go the way of Remington, Again your decision. Good Luck.

I need a assembly sprocket cover part 118811-01

Remington is no longer in production. Often eBay is the only source for replacement parts. The motor for any model Remington cannot be found. We rarely get questions about McCulloch or Poulan electrics, I suspect a much higher quality saw that will need few if any replacement parts. Wen is back in production, they used to be a quality product they might be worthy a critical inspection. $22 would be a god start toward a replacement saw.
I added one to my shopping cart here.

It started running slow and ruff. I let it rest

Almost certainly, it got hot and some motor windings shorted. Try a different extension cord and an outlet on a different circuit breaker. Try connecting directly to the saw plug.
Motor parts are all NLA with on exception here:
Master Distributors
http://www.masterparts.net/remingtonelectricchainsaw.html
The replacement requires complete motor replacement and displays no dollar amount.

14" Remington chain replacement

I input "Remington; EL-1; 14"; All; All; All" here:
Oregon Bar & Chain Selector
http://www.oregonchain.com/pro/lookups/selguide.aspx?BusId=OCS&SellReg=USA&LangId=ENG
It returned "91VG050G, 91VX050G or 91VXL050G". Please read the triangular warning placards. The original chain is most likely green.

Column 4 says a 14" chain has 50 drive links (the part in the bar groove". Please count them, if you get a different number try a different length bar. The Oregon part number can be ordered on line or if given to a local merchant fabricated in their facility.

If you have more questions or need additional help please reply below and I will get back to you. Thank you for using FixYa and Good Luck. HTH
