Casio Ctk 496 Electronic Keyboard with 61 Keys and Singalong Capability - Page 3 Questions & Answers
Is a sustain foot pedal similar to a tattoo machine pedal?
The sustain pedals have only two wires. Usually they terminate in a 1/4 inch mono plug.
yamaha USUALLY sustains when switch is closed. Roland usually sustains on a switch between the wires when the switch is open.
NO POWER should be supplied BY the sustain pedal... it is ONLY a switch.
No display light on my casio ctk 496 every thing else works
Sorry, but many of the low end keyboards do NOT have backlights. This is especially true of those that have the capability of running off batteries like the CTK-496.
The display in this is a reflectance type that needs ambient lighting to view.
Fruity loops old version with casio keyboard
You haven't said whether or not you are using a demo ,version of FL. If you purchased they have Lifetime Free Updates here:http://flstudio.image-line.com/documents/lifetimefreeupdates.html If you didn't purchase, try downloading the newest demo version here:http://flstudio.image-line.com/documents/download.html Some features of demo programs become disabled after a certain time period. I don't know if midi device recognition is one of them for this program. Try hooking your keyboard up first, making sure that you have the correct drivers for the keyboard, your USB adapter etc. Then start FL and see if the program lists your keyboard in the midi device list.
My Casio CTK-496 Keyboard has three keys (2nd
First make sure a keyboard "split" option is not set.
Probably you are going to have to clean the key contacts. They are likely conductive rubber "pills" that are pressed onto a circuit board that has interleaved fingers. Clean both the black pills and the circuit board using ONLY 99% isoprophyl alcohol and Q-Tips.
7,4,1 keys in keyboard are not working
Turn the keyboard off, unplug it, take out the batteries. MAKE SURE YOU DO THIS STEP BEFORE PROCEEDING! Remove the metal plate under the octave you are having trouble with. Get a can of compressed air, and GENTLY use it to blow out the strike pads (the part of the white key that hits the computer board) Reassemble and power it on.
A screen showing figure I can't understand.
Turn it off, unplug it, take the batteries out and leave it that way for 1 half hour. This should reset it to factory mode. If this doesn't work, you may have a faulty screen.
The audio is not coming out what to do
First, check your volume. Try turning it up the whole way. If that doesn't work, then try moving the slider switch to normal, and playing.
Also, try using the keyboard in Song Bank mode. If you have a Sustain Pedal, make sure it's in the accessory port and not the Headphone port. If none of this works, then you may have blown a speaker. Parts are cheap from Casio ($13.00) and are relatively easy to put in yourself.
Keys 7 and 8 from the bass side are lower than
In Casio Chord mode, the bottom keys up to the second F plays Bass Chords. The Keyboard is just putting the keys you play back into bass when you get up that high. If you read along the plastic edge above where they keys come out of the keyboard, it shows you where the Chord keys end and the Keyboard begins. If you want use of all the Octaves, slide the power switch to the first setting (normal).
I have a casio keyboard and if i plug headphones
It is important that your headphones are STEREO tyoe as a monaural 1/4 inch plug will short out one side of the output audio.
Make sure the plug is fully seated as it has a switch in the unit that disconnects the speakers typically when headphones are plugged in.
If your speakers do not get cut off when you plug in the headphones, it is POSSIBLLE that the switches on the jack have been broken. This would require servicing.
How do i get it to sound like a minimoog?
There is no way to make a low-end keyboard model a Mini Moog decently.
You probably need to get up into the $1000 to $2000 range to get decent modeling of the analog synths... Go to a music store that has used equipment and maybe they can find an older analog synth that can get close. Maybe try to find a DX7II or other unit but be aware it takes talent to tweak the sounds where you would want them.
Bought a sustain foot pedal and it works the opposite
Yep!!! Happens all the time and only a few synths have the option of selecting the operating mode.
NOW if you can open the pedal, USUALLY the switch has both the Normally Open and Normally Closed functions that a single wire can be moved to reverse the operation.
USUALLY you will need a soldering iron to make the change.
I would like to record my songs compositions in
You haven't said what kind of computer you have but I will recommend a program called Audacity which is very good. It is freeware. You will need a stereo cable with plugs that match the line out jacks on your keyboard on one end and an 1/8" stereo plug on the other. The 1/8" should go into the line in jack on your computers sound card. Audacity is available here:http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ That is to get you started. If you want notation software, I would recommend Finale which you will have to purchase for a full version. Their website is here:http://www.finalemusic.com/ They have trial versions available. Here is a link to another program that might be good although I haven't tried the program:http://www.techspot.com/downloads/1831-magicscore-school.html If you want to use a program to record the midi output of your keyboard, you will have to use a midi cable from the midi out on your keyboard to a midi to usb adapter to your computer. That is the easiest way if your sound card has no midi in/ out jacks. Here is a good link to info about all that:http://www.indiana.edu/~emusic/etext/MIDI/chapter3_MIDI.shtml Let me know if this helps.
No power is coming through to my CTK 611, bought a
There is a chance that the jack that the power supply plugs into is broken loose or has bad solder joints to the circuit board. I am hoping that you purchased a direct replacement for the power supply.
Power on for 2 seconds and turns off by itself.
Check your solder work with a strong magnifying glass. You probably have either a solder bridge between 2 of the leads or a cold solder joint. If the joints are okay, look for heat damage in a nearby component.
My CTX-496 has a key that has broken off.
Here is the site list for Europe for parts:http://www.casio-europe.com/euro/support/repair/emi/ Here is the U.S. site:http://www.casio.com/support/buyparts/ I hope this helps.
The last two keys on the right side do not work
Probably something has come loose inside if everything else is normal.
Disassemble the device carefully. Look for cables or wires that may be partially or totally disconnected. If there are connectors, "reseat" the connectors. (Take them apart, put them back together firmly but not too firmly.)
If there is still a problem and you have a meter and are able to operate the keyboard with the unit open, you can compare voltage readings of those keys with nearby keys at any points you can find related to the keys. Compare with both keys up and keys down.
On some keyboards, you can bridge the switch contacts with an unbent paper clip to make a connection as though a key had been pressed. If you are comfortable with this and if doing that makes those keys play, then you have a mechanical problem related to the keys. Check for snapped plastic, etc.
