The fan is probably the problem. Those devices have high-powered amplifiers in them that generate large amounts oh heat. The fan(s) cool these amplifiers. If the overheat, the system shuts down in a protective mode to prevent damage. If the problem persists for too long, damage can result. Replacement of the fan may be all you need to do to get the device operating again. As far as ease of replacement, most fans are fairly easy to access. Depending upon whether is a plug-in or solder-in will determine level of difficulty. Also, size and mounting must be considered, but usually there are acceptable alternatives when replacing original fans. Just be sure that you have the right specifications (A/C or DC, polarity, voltage level). Rotational speed can vary somewhat, but you need adequate airflow without incurring too much noise.

In any native or automatic sound mode the HT will only produce mutichannel sound from multichannel sources delivering a digital bitstream. Is that the case with the TV? The best source for TV related audio is from the source, usually the cable box. Read the manual.

Make sure it's plugged in. Sounds a little silly but you would be surprised...
Make sure the wall socket works. Plug a lamp or something that you know works.
Might be a fuse. Look in the back of the unit to see if it's accessible, otherwise you have to open the unit.

Worked for me with a small change

1. Remove disc from tray.
2. Switch off player and unplug from mains.
3. Wait 30 seconds, then reconnect mains.
4. Turn on player with remote. press the 'Repeat' on the remote for 10 sec'.
5. Press enter on remote. (There will be no on-screen response.)
6. Press 8, 4, 2, 6, 9 on the remote. (There will be no on-screen response.)
7. Press enter on the remote. Player will automatically shut off.
8. Turn player on.
9. Turn off.
10. Turn player on then off again.
11. Player is now region-free.

On the rear of your TV connect, with a phono/RCA cable to the Audio R + L sockets, connect the other ends to your Yamaha using the TV in sockets. See photos attached Hope that helps. HDMI is for video unless the extra pins are added for audio.
