Maybe you should take the hint and not purchase further equipment from a company with which you are clearly not happy? I have always found the best action with any malfunctioning items is to take them to the nearest qualified trustworthy repair centre, not get all worked up about things

It is more than likely that during the period of prolonged storage in less than ideal conditions, some moisture has entered the camcorder and rendered it useless. This camcorder is also some twenty-four years old, and all consumer electronic devices have a limited life, even if well looked after. I feel your only choice is to replace it, and keep the replacement in optimum storage conditions - maybe in a dry cupboard indoors.
