My DH40 unit kicks on

Toni, this sounds like the humidity extraction level is set to high. Lower it to 32 - 35%. The fan is running in an effort to recirculate the air. If the unit senses a rise in humidity above the level you have it set on, the compressor will turn on to extract the rise in humidity. That's why I think your level is set to high.

Hope this helped you to troubleshoot and solve the problem.

Any garden hose will fit the drain connection on your dehumidifier. However, the hose can not be longer than 5 feet. As the drainage relies entirely on gravity to drain. Connecting it directly to a sump pump is not a good solution. Allowing the hose to drain into the sump pump's water collection tank is your only option.

Hope this helped you.

Model GHD30 dehumidifier-runs for a

As I have told many questioners, There are 5 basic, but solvable reason for what you described. Please pay particular attention to numbers 1 & 2..

1. The humidity extraction level is set to HIGH. Lower it to 32-35%. If your unit does not have an
LED screen, turn the control to Maximum.

2. Air intake filter is dirty or clogged. Turn unit OFF, & Unplug the
Unit, before removing to inspect & clean it, if necessary. If washed,
allow filter to completely dry before reinstalling. DO NOT operate
the unit without the filter.

3. Obstructed air flow. Maintain a minimum of 12 to 18" of clear air
space around the entire unit.

4. Cooling coils are dirty and need to be cleaned. Use warm water & dish washing liquid to clean
the coils. Rinse and wipe dry. Apply a light coating of WD40 to the coils.

5. Ambient air temperature at floor level is between 40 - 60 degrees.
dehumidifiers do not work well between those temperatures
(Unless, you have a Low Temp Unit). This applies mainly to
where the air temperature at floor level is colder than at shoulder
in basement applications level. Raising the unit up off the floor,
onto a sturdy table, counter top, etc, that can handle the weight
of the unit, plus a full tank of water, will usually resolve this
problem.

If none of the above solves the problem, it may be a case of the compressor needs to be recharged with refrigerant gas or that the humidity condenser sensor has failed. These things usually occur in units that are 5 years old or older. It's rare in a unit younger than that. But, it can happen.

Hope this helped you to troubleshoot and solve the problem.

I have a Goldstar DH504

Hi rwheat3,

If you're experiencing slow production of water, it is often caused by the coil. If the compressor and the fan are running but the coil is totally blocked then you will get no water production. The easiest way to resolve this issue is by checking the coil. Air needs to be continually moved over the cold coil to get the water out of the air.

Hope it helps.

Sometimes my dehumifier (Goldstar) leaks.

Gary, most of the time, what you described is caused by 2 thing:

1. The cooling coils are icing up and not thawing as they should. This is usually caused by a dirty or clogged air intake filter. Solution: Turn the unit OFF, unplug it and remove and clean the air intake filter.

2. The drain hole or tubing, that drains water into the bucket is clogged. Solution: Using an 18" long plastic Zip Tie or something similar that is flexible (NO wire coat hangers, though) and appropriately sized to fit into the hole or tubing. Carefully insert the Zip Tie and continue to push it in, until to reach the bend in the tubing. You must gingerly work it past this bend, until it either bottoms out or you run out of usable Zip Tie. While slowly pulling it out, rotate (twist) the Zip Tie and as it reaches it's end, be prepared for some water to follow. That procedure will loosen any clogs.

Hope this helped you troubleshoot and solve the problem. Please let e know. Thanks.

My Goldstar dehumidifer won't do

tia0418 - I'm sorry you're having such a problem with this. But, taking off the back, won't allow you access to the air intake filter. It's behind the louvers on the front of the unit.

You failed to mention which model Goldstar Dehumidifier you have, but most have the same features. If you remove the bucket and look up in the cavity where the bucket was removed, you should see what looks like a plastic pull handle. That's the handle for the filter frame. Pull that down and the filter and frame will come out. You then can clean the filter, by following the Owner's Manual Instructions.

The clamps that you referred to are just spring type clamps in a "V" shape. Push the top of the "V" together and the back should release from the cabinet. You can "carefully" use a flat bladed screw driver to do this, if necessary.

Hope this helped you further troubleshoot and solve the problem. Please let me know. Thanks.

The back is icing up,

there are a few things that could cause this. first check that if there are any filters, they are clean. next, check that the front coil is clean. you will have to open the case to check this. another thing that could cause this is the room temperature is too cool or possibly that the humidistat is up all the way in a cool room. if it is not any of these then a freon leak may have developed and the unit is low on freon charge. check all of these the let me know the results.

Is it ok to use

Of coarse it is. Many newer homes with energy efficient heating are built so tight that moisture from showers and cooking builds up to un-acceptable levels.
