I have a Zenith dehumidifier

Gary, if it's not collecting condensation, there are 5 basic, yet solvable reason s for this. One you have already taken care of - cleaning the filter.

1. The humidity extraction level is set to HIGH. Lower it to 32-35%. If you have an analog unit
set the humidity extraction level knob to Maximum.

2. Air intake filter is dirty or clogged. Turn unit OFF, & Unplug the
Unit, before removing to inspect & clean it, if necessary. If washed,
allow filter to completely dry before reinstalling. DO NOT operate
the unit without the filter.

3. Obstructed air flow. Maintain a minimum of 12 to 18" of clear air
space around the entire unit.

4. Cooling coils are dirty and need to be cleaned. Use warm water & dish washing liquid to
clean the coils. Rinse and wipe dry. Apply a light coating of WD40 to the coils.

5. Ambient air temperature at floor level is between 40 - 60 degrees.
dehumidifiers do not work well between those temperatures
(Unless, you have a Low Temp Unit). This applies mainly to
where the air temperature at floor level is colder than at shoulder level
in basement applications. Raising the unit up off the floor,
onto a sturdy table, counter top, etc, that can handle the weight
of the unit, plus a full tank of water, will usually resolve this
problem.

If none of the above solves the problem, it may be a case of the compressor needs to be recharged with refrigerant gas or that the humidity condenser sensor has failed. These things usually occur in units that are 5 years old or older. It's rare in a unit younger than that. But, it can happen.

I hope this helps you to further troubleshoot and solve the problem. Thanks for choosing FixYa.

What are my humdity settings

Simply put the humidity extraction settings generally range from 35% to 65%. The lower the percentage, the more humidity is removed and the house feels more comfortable. The higher the percentage, the more humidity remains in the house. In the hot humid Summer months, you want the humidity in the house to be as low as possible (i.e. 35%-45%) in the cooler months a higher humidity
( 60%) make the house feel more comfortable and does away with carpet static shock.

Choosing a setting is your decision, based on what I have explained above and your own comfort level.

I hope my information has helped you and thanks for choosing FixYa.

I have a DH504EL. Should

if the fan is simply humming but not turning over take the back cover off and make sure the blower piece is free turning. i used to have a dehumidifier(goldstar similar model long sold though) it had a bad thermal fuse in the fan motor but compressor worked perfect. bolt is i think 10mm and i had to peel the tape off of the motor windings to get at the fuse. soldered new one in(p/o gave me new fuse and 10 bucks to get it out of his hair what a deal:) ) and retaped the windings. also the felt bearings may be loose but i just lubed the front and back bearing housings well with syn-lube(valvoline for brakes) and reassembled. baby oil works wonders so does vasoline but due to heat that trick does not last long before making a racket and leaves a **** on the assemblies underneath(mess) so try the high temp lube or any moly based brake lube

It runs but leaks water,

Denise, there are several things that can cause the problem.

1. The water collection bucket is not installed properly. Turn the unit OFF and remove the bucket. While you have it out, look at the top of the bucket, is there a float valve near the top. If so, it may be stuck in the DOWN position, which tells the dehumidifier the bucket is not full yet. Jiggle the arm of the float valve to see if it moves freely. Reinstall the bucket bucket "squarely" from top to bottom into it's holder. The bottom should not tilt down at all, if installed properly.

2. The drain tube to the bucket may be clogged. To solve this problem do the following:

Remove the water collection bucket and look up inside the bucket holder cavity. You will see either a drain hole or small tubing that drains the water into the bucket. Using an appropriately sized, 18" long, plastic Zip Tie, carefully insert the tip of Zip Tie into the hole or tubing. Continue to push it in until you reach a bend in the tubing. You will need to gingerly work the Zip Tie past this bend, until it either bottoms out or you run out of usable Zip Tie. Then slowly pull the Zip Tie back out while rotating (twisting) it. This will breakup any clogs. As you reach the inserted end of the Zip Tie, be prepared, as some water may follow. Reinstall the bucket, plug the unit in and turn the Master ON/OFF Switch to ON. Set the humidity extraction level to 35% or Maximum if you have a manually controlled unit. Allow the unit to run, while you monitor it for any leakage.

NOTE: If you don't have a Zip Tie, you may use something similar ( i.e.a long pipe cleaner), but NO wire coat hangers
.

3. The water you're seeing may not be from the bucket overflowing or leaking. It's condensation that is has built up on the cooling coils and is dripping down under the unit. If this is the case, it's an indication that the coils are dirty and need to be cleaned. Warm water and dish washing liquid works well to clean the coils. Be sure to rinse them with a damp rag, dry thoroughly and spray a light coating of WD40 on them.

I hope that all the information I have provided will help you troubleshoot and solve the problem. Thanks for choosing FixYa.

Always empty no water basement is wet

these types of units are prone to losing their refrigerant/freon depending on which type the unit uses R22 freon or R134a/R12 refrigerant, now you can have it pressurized to find any leak, but it gets costly,as most of these units all makes will do this after 2-3 years

I have a Mod DH305T7.

Steve, have you checked the water collection bucket, to make sure it's installed properly. If it's not, the unit will not start. Remove the bucket and look in the top of the bucket for a float valve. If it's stuck in the up position, jiggle the handle to make it go DOWN. When you reinstall the bucket, be sure that it fits "squarely" in the bucket holder from top to bottom

Hope this helps you and thanks for choosing FixYa.

Model GHD30 will not run.

Jim, you may also want to check the water bucket installation, too. If it is not properly installed, the unit will not turn ON. Also, check the float valve in the top of the bucket. It may be stuck in the UP position. In which case the unit will not start. Giggle the arm of the float valve to get it to return to the DOWN position.

Hope this helps you to further troubleshoot & solve the problem. Thanks for choosing FixYa.

Compressor turns on but fan motor does not run.

Hi there,
If the voltage is showing 122.8 it means that there is electricity going into the board and even the compressor is turning on.
It is indeed a bad fan motor, if you want you can also try to check the wires going to the fan motor and check the voltage running on it.
for replacement parts you can try calling these guys:

How do you set humidity

The percentage arrows are how you set the humidity extraction level. The lower the percentage level, the more humidity/moisture it removes from the air. The higher the level, the less it extracts from the air.

Now to your problem of the % arrows not moving. Turn the Master ON/Off Switch to OFF and unplug the unit for 30 minutes. After the elapsed time, plug the unit back in and turn the Master ON/OFF Switch to ON. Set the humidity extracting level at 35% (That's the Down Arrow).. If everything works now, as it should, that 30 minute time out allowed the electronics to reset themselves.

If it didn't reset and the problem continues, you need to contact Gold Star technical Support
(800) 243-0000.

Hope this helped you solve the problem. Please let me know. Thanks.
