Goldstar DH504EL Dehumidifier - Page 4 Questions & Answers
My goldstar ghd30t7 just stopped
If it has no power at all then its the problem of power supply to the machine. The main control board in the
Dehumidifier needs to be checked. But if there is power to the unit and its not working then check if the fan in the unit starts or not,if not then its the fan problem.Give a little push to the fan by hand manually and check if it starts spinning.,Take any wooden object to push the fan with power on.also check if the drain hose is getting blocked in the unit.

Hi,
There can be many reasons why a dehumidifier will
not work or collect water.
Here is a tip that I wrote to help people to figure out what is going wrong
with their dehumidifier
Dehumidifier is running but no water is in bucket

Wow, this sounds like you might have two problems. The coils could need cleaning, which would explain the unit not drawing moisture from the air. However, the humidity and timer inability to change settings would seem to indicate a bad control board.
Here is the cleaning process for the coils, as explained by another tech on FixYa:

The problem is probably due to dirty or clogged coils. Cleaning the coils to a dehumidifier is similar to cleaning the coils on an air conditioner. It really depends on how dirty the coils are. If it is not too dirty you can use a shop vacuum with a brush attachment. If it is really dirty you will have to use a non acidic hvac coil cleaner or you can use a household cleaner like Simple Green that has been diluted 1:1 with water and placed in a spray bottle. Spray the solution on and let it sit for 5-10 minutes. Make sure you unplug the unit before doing anything. If you use Simple Green make sure you spray it down with clean water. If you use an hvac type coil cleaner some do not require rinsing. Follow the directions on the product exactly. You might have to use a brush or even a putty knife if the coil is totally clogged. Be careful you do not damage the coil. Good luck!
Here is another FixYa suggestion for a similar humidifier, and may be of help:

Hi,
If you haven't done so already, try removing and cleaning the inlet filter screen which is almost certainly just behing the inlet grille. It may slide upwards out of the casing or downwards unto the bucket area. If this is blocked with fluff then no moist air will get to the cold pipes, so little or no water will be extracted. There's also a chance that the humidity sensor is clogged with fluff, so fooling the system into thinking the room is pretty dry, in which case the compressor will probably not run.
A running compressor can usually be detected as a deep throbbing from the machine. If it is running, but not cooling the pipes behind the intake grille, then you may have lost the refrigerant from the system via a leak. If the air coming out of the machine is warm (caused by the compressor running) but there is no water produced this may be the cause.
Maybe if the unit runs correctly, the speed setting and timer settings will work, hopefully.
Good luck, hope this helps, and thanks for using FixYa.
Won't draw moisture
Hi,
First, make sure the humidistat isn't set too high by adjusting it to
the lowest humidity setting and running it again. Next, test the
dehumidifier by placing it in a closed bathroom with a hot shower
running. If you don't see water collecting in the unit after several
minutes, turn the unit off and clean all dehumidifier filters and
coils. If, after adjusting the settings and cleaning the unit, you
still don't see water collecting, you may have a refrigeration issue.
This situation will have to be addressed by a qualified technician.
Good luck.
The coils freeze up after less than a half hour of
the coils freeze up for one of two reasons .. if air flow is blocked .. sometimes by dust buildup or fan bearings needing lube .. second if the fan is working properly then ice buildup can be caused by low refrigerant levels .. the proper charge produces a steady coolness across the entire evaporator (cold coil) .. as the level drops it tends to cool a small part of the evaporator way too cold .. that creates ice .. the ice blocks the air flow and soon the whole thing is blocked ...so check the fan first .. if its running properly and there is nothing blocking air flow then suspect low refrigerant.. that requires adding a saddle valve service port to the system to allow adding refrigerant .. often the problem is caused by the fan not working at all because of lack of lube in the bearings or a bad starting capacitor ..

Goldstar Dehumidiflier coil freezes
Hi,
If you are having problems with your dehumidifier freezing up them here are a few things that you can check and also a few things that may help you.
First check the ambient temperature of the room at the level of the dehumidifier. If it is below 65 degreesand you do not have a special low temperature dehumidifier then you are asking for trouble. Most units are only designed to work in temperature 65 or higher and will freeze if they are working at lower temperatures. Some even will not work well below 68 degrees F.
Many dehumidifiers will shut off when the coil starts to freeze to let them thaw, then they will restart when the coil is warm enough again. This can take an hour or so. Some will not shut down the compressor and when the dehumidifier coil starts to freeze it reduces the air flow and only compounds the problem.
Check the air flow over the coil. If the coil becomes dirty or the fan motor stops or even slows down a bit, you will get freezing. The dehumidifier is very dependent upon the proper amount of air going over the coil to keep the coil warm enough to not freeze. Any restriction will cause problems.
The final and worst thing that can happen is for your dehumidification unit is to develop a slight leak in therefrigeration system. This will cause the coils to run even colder then they would normally and this will create the same problems. If everything else check out then you may have to have the refrigeration system checked by a professional. The problem with this is that many of these units only cost a few hundred dollars and a service call can soon add up to more then the unit is worth.
Some things that you can do to help out a dehumidifier that is freezing up are:
Raise the temperature of the room and provide a bit of heat for the room as the dehumidifier is actually a very small A/C unit.
Raise the dehumidifier up off of the floor… the air is usually warmer when you go higher up in the room, hot air rises.
Clean the coils off so that the air can flow through them easier and keep them warmer.
Make sure that the fan motor bearings are oiled and that the fan is running freely. Even a tiny bit of resistance will slow the fan enough to make a difference.
By checking all these things out and making some small changes you maybe able to make yourdehumidifier work much more effectively.
The bucket peace will not make contact inside the
This sound like the part of the bucket that makes contact with the plunger might have broken off. A simple fix can be made by duct tapping a square of duct tape to the bucket where it make a contact to the plunger.Do not duct tape the plunger this will work but most likey over flow.Hope this helps
Unit just won't work anymore .
I have a model dh404e with the same problem.I was told it is the main control board inside the unit(not dislpay board) but a new board costs around $60.
Very loud vibration when the fan runs.
Hello,
With the unit
unplugged, open the cover and check the alignment of the fan. If the
fan is stuck or rubbing against the fan cowling, adjust the fan motor's
mounting hardware so that the fan turns freely.
Good luck.
