Sony Alpha DSLR-A300 Digital Camera Questions & Answers
LCD Screen
Your camera is working exactly as SLRs have worked for the first half-century since their invention. You frame the picture through the viewfinder then take the shot. The display is for menu settings and reviewing pictures after they've been taken. Newer DSLRs will let you use the display for picture-taking (and take videos) but the A200 belongs to the previous generation.
Cannot get pictures off my sony a300
It's not working with the memory card reader?
The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader. This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.
Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo management program such as Picasa (

I have a Sony DSLR
The camera has live-view, so is the LCD always white? Can you play back old pictures or view menus properly? Do your pictures turn out white or are they ok?
If it's always white and you can't see anything, you need the LCD replaced or the cable going from the main PCB to the LCD replaced. 99% likely the LCD, not the cable.
If you can playback old pictures and view menus... but NEW pictures turn out white then it's not a problem with the LCD screen at all, it's the CMOS or something else.
Without knowing more detail it's hard to say exactly what's wrong, but it definitely sounds like the camera needs repair.

Camera error appears after pressing button
If you have a camera error, or a system error, you should switch of the camera, remove the battery and reinsert the battery, before switching it on again. If this happens frequently you should contact a authorised Sony service centre. While you have the battery out, you could check if the contacts are clean, free and shiny. (on battery and in the camera)
The shutter is very delayed, many times will not
It is jammed. As a last resort spray little WD40 externally without allowing it to seep through. If it goes inside it may cause problems in lens section. Protect the lens first from any oil coming into contact.lens cleaning solutions are safe to apply and try.
Useing a flash off a sony a300
Obviously, you'd need a separate flash unit, since you can't take the built-in flash off the camera. Just as obviously, you'd need a way to trigger that flash. Some flash units have a remote sensor that will respond to the camera's flash. The a300 has a wireless mode for triggering such flashes. There are remote flash systems that include a radio transmitter that fits onto the camera's hot shoe and a receiver that the flash mounts onto. Some flash units have a jack so you can use a cord to connect the flash to the camera. The degree of automation depends on the system. The a300's wireless mode works best with Sony's own flash units. The separate wireless and cord methods will work with just about any flash, though you'll probably have to set the exposure and flash output yourself.
