When i turn on camera, it says battery empty
ok this happpened to my old kodak once. actually, several times.what i ended up having to do was give it to a mechanically inclined friend to fix. as it turned out, some cable had been fried after one of the times i dropped the camera. so you can either:
- get rechargable batteries to save money
- buy a new camera
- contact a mechanically inclined friend/relative/co-worker
hope this helped!
My LCD display just randomly stopped working.
replace the battery and check out firat with brand new battery.many a times it battery problem.if still the same problem its due to lcd ic faulty on the mini circuit board.that has to replaced by a service center.
Cannot select "camera menu" from the Top Menu
If the camera is in Auto mode those items cannot be selected because the camera is already using factory default settings and they cannot be changed, If you press the Ok button and change to P mode then you will be able to access all of those menu settings and make any changes you wish to the camera settings.
Don't want to lose photos.. not sure of the next step ??
Hi, Jacqui.
You are correct, if you format you loose all your pictures. When itsays "clean" I think it means to delete some pictures, the phrasechanges from camera maker to camera maker so unless it says it does not have a card or it can't read the card when there is one in there, it's probably not that the card is dirty.
For the official Olympus manual instructions...
Just in case you did not get the manual, you can download it from here, and for the photo download look in page 46 - 49

My version of it...
What you have to do is connect the camera to a computer using the USB cable that came with the camera (one that fits to the side of the camera and has a square connector on the other side) with Windows 2000 or newer or a Mac. You can use the software (already installed on the computer) to download (copy) to the computer the photos, or you can do it without installing it. When you plug it in the first time it will take about 30 seconds to a minute for it to recognize the camera, a little pop-up will tell you when it's ready. Maybe even a window will come up asking you what to do, if you have XP or vista it will even ask you if you want to copy the photos it found to your computer... pick that one. After you do that and it shows it copying, you should better make sure it copied them to your computer... disconnect the camera (use the little icon on the bottom taskbar that says "safely Remove Hardware" or "Stop USB Mass Storage Dev" when you are top of it), and look for the pictures; the most likely place to find them is on your "user"'s documents, and in pictures. If you used the software, then look where ever you picked for when you installed.
I still recommend taking a stab at the manual so you get all the details and pictures.
I hope this helps you out. And remember, make sure you have the pictures before deleting or formating...and Always make a CD backup... I lost a lot of pics once when my Laptop got stolen, and did not have any backup of them... grrrr! :-)

Is the Olympus 850sw digital camera waterproof?
You probably know by now that the 850SW is waterproof, shockproof and also stands up in freezing conditions. I am just writing because I am very happy with mine and would highly recommend it for your active boyfriend. We have gotten many great pictures with it in the water and the kids have been pretty rough with it at times.
Olympus also has newer versions of this camera, the 1030SW and the 1050SW. I saw the 1050SW today at Costco for just 229.99.
Pictures on memory card
A lot of cameras these days use sub directory folders on the memory stick. Try using a computer to drag all the photos to the top most layer directory on the memory stick.
Why camera says one moment and does not seem to want to recognize computer
Most brands of cameras deliver a CD with the camera, containing software, needed to backup, transfer and work with the pictures you shot, to a computer.
Most of the time there is software is for both, Windows and MAC.
Before you connect the camera to any computer, you should install the software. The disk also has the drivers for the old operating systems.
If you lost the CD, or just don't know where it is right now, you can go to the site of your camera brand and try to download the software you need. For that look under support.
If your camera is old, and the brand does not exist anymore, try a freeware picture transfer / editing software pack. Like Gimp or Adobe Photoshop elements.
Just connecting a camera to a computer causes two things. The camera shuts down, and the computer won't recognise the camera. So nothing works.
If you can't get software form your brand, you always can install other generic software like Ulead, Pixir, BeFunkey, Gimp, Photoshop express. Or if that is not possible you could install an external memory card reader and download the pictures via de memory card reader.
Pictures will not download into pc
Try NOT connecting your camera to your computer.
The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.
Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo management program such as Picasa (
http://picasa.google.com ).
Weird spots on camera screen
go out and purchase you some LCD tv screen cleaner and use that. It is safe to use on the camera screen, see if that fixes the problem.
