This issue is caused by fiedd of view angle and means that the lens is not compatible with the camera. You can set the F-stop higher and sometimes reduce that effect.

And most important: go out and take pictures! You're not paying for film and processing, so take a lot of pictures and look at them on your computer. Experiment, see what the different settings do.

It is almost 20 years old and I expect get used infrequently causing electronic issues.

I do not use a program to transfer photos. I typically take the memory card out and access it directly, in some cases, with an adapter. I will always back up photos before I delete them. I then delete the photos off the memory card.

Question edited for clarity. It is a *lens, not 'lense'. The model is a D3300. When you look at something with your eyes, the field of view is around 35mm, so a lens that covers that is useful. Then at the higher end a 85mm to 210mm zoom cover the higher end.
